Some dogs do not want to soil their feet on the wet spots that they have already placed on the pad. They can't just stand in one place to poo (they tend to circle) so they go elsewhere. We had a problem with Gracie for a while so I put an additional pad in a frame next to the one she already used. It worked fine. She got used to using the pad again and I eventually was able to go back to one pad. I do make sure I change the pad more often. Exercise is the best way to get a dog's bowels moving. If you could take him for a good brisk walk or play some fetch with him when it is about time for him to go you would get the activity over with for the day.....outside. |

Another way to deal with a dog that is having accidents in the house is to tether him to you with a leash while he is inside. If you cannot get him to go outside then simply attach him to you with a leash or string so he is with you wherever you go. That way you will not miss his signals that say he has to go. Training is not done without your input. If you can't seem to catch him doing the deed then you need to have him with you until he gets it right. When you see he has to go take him to the proper place and wait until he is done. Make sure you always reward him with a treat and lots of praise. This will work much more quickly than any amount of scolding done after he has made a mistake. |
