zooeys visit to ortho surgeon Just to let everyone know, zooeys visit to the vet has came. She does have grade 1 LP. No need for surgery as long as wright stays down. Or she becomes injured, lame, or in pain. I'm so happy for the news. So this finally explains her skip with a fast pace walk. Thanks for all the prayers. God is good! |
I'm glad her deformity is not too bad. You might want to look into supplements that will help strengthen her connective tissue. Glucosamine and MSM are a couple of supplements that have been found to help support connective tissues. The Omega3's are also helpful. When you have a joint deformity the surrounding connective tissues are very important in helping to support the weakened joint. As the animal (or human) ages and connective tissues wear out the joint issues become more pronounced and painful. Keeping those tissues strong and healthy for as long as possible is really important. Read all you can about supplements and always give a small amount at first to make sure your pet does not have any allergic response to it. Supplements that come from real healthy food sources are always the best quality and more easily absorbed into the pet's body. Best wishes for your little one's future joint issues. |
I was giving glucosMine and he said not needed. Won't help. He felt her knee was very strong and kneecap doesn't pop out easily. He said those kills are for swelling. Arthritis etc. Not to help LP at this level. So I don't know. |
Happy to hear that it won't need surgery at this time. Praying she'll keep from jumping on it and it can be kept under control. Thank you for letting us know the update! |

You dog is young now and fairly healthy. As they age is when the problem comes in. When the connective tissue gets weak it cannot support the deformed joint as well. Supplements help slow down the degenerative process. |
awesome news |
From what I understand the only way that Glucosamine will be helpful is if given with Chondroiton at the same time. One of the supplements for dogs has both, but I don't recall which one. The surgeon I use does not advise it either. |
Yes I had both in pills. But I guess will stop it. |
I don't use it. |

It won't hurt....but if a board certified surgeon told me it won't help...I am not wasting my money and time. My surgeon said it won't....and yours said it. I guess you have to decide what suits you and your pup. I tried that stuff for myself years ago and it did nothing for me...zip, zero, nothing. It would take a lot to convince me that it would do anything for one of my pups. |

dog My vet says to use Dasuquin which is glucosamine and chondroitin. Spud gets1/2 tab every am. He loves them, tastes like liver. I really think this helps because I would not do the surgery on his legs. He takes this and has been fine. I get this at my vets but I think you can get it other places. too. |
Megan had bad LP in both hind legs, no supplements were ever suggested, and I tried glucosamine and chondroitin, for several months, trying to stop the continuous damage to my joints, it never did anything. Glad your baby is fine, and doesn't need any surgery anytime soon. Once you start down that road, it's a long hard road to travel. Good luck, and many years before any drastic measures are needed, hopefully none. Cheers Quad & Gina:aimeeyork |
