How do you feel about pig ears? Many dogs I know love pig ears. How do you feel about giving our Yorkie pig ears (the ones from Canada)? |
I saw those at pet supply...I really don't want to pick pig ears up off my floor! But I guess it isn't as bad as some things I pick up |
Personally I am not a fan of rawhides or pig ears. I have heard of dogs choking to death on rawhides, and I feel that this could happen with pig ears as well....just not a fan. |
Not good for yorkies at all. Not fully digestible |
Never tried them because I had heard they were not good for Yorkies.... |
I agree with the majority. :thumbdown Pigs Ears Just not heatlhy or benefical to give your baby. Some Yorkies get REALLY possesive over them too. |
My Gf gave her dog ( big dog) ONE of those and she threw up.. ( both ends) for 2 days,, and had to go to the vet,, because of dehydration. Her vet told her that LOTS of dogs are allergic to something in them. like 20-30% of dogs,,and that is what happens.. YIKES! I wouldn't give my dog one,, but I never thought that many dogs would be allergic to them. :thumbdown |
my rosie loves them she has one once a week, im glad to say iv never had any trouble with them but rose only eats small amounts of a ear at a time maybe that has something to do with it? or it could be that rosie is a big yorkie (10lb 30z) |
I give my two pigs ears...they love them...although with the controversy with them I do not give them as much as i use to.....I have started giving them 'pig twists" they are harder to eat and they can't gobble them as fast....anyone ever try cow hoofs???? my dogs love them although they do smell..... |
The fat content in any pork product for dogs is high. So, it COULD add weight to your baby. Also, within the past 2 years there was controversy about the possibility of salmonella.. To me the reason we would give a Yorkie something like that is to help keep them from chewing or to help them when teething and such. Cutting it in small pieces would not serve those purposes and would anly add fat calories to their diet. JMO Years ago I had a larger Yorkie who loves rawhide and she was an only child so I didn't have to worry about young ones getting choked. One evening my hubby wearing his fav dark brown cord pants, got up to walk out of the room. He does not have the wildest sense of humor and did not appreciate it when I started howling with laughter. Stuck on the butt of his pants was a gooey 3X3 inch piece of rawhide. They are not in our house anymore!! I still laugh when I think about it.. |
I heard it's not a good treat for our furbabies. We stick with greenies, :D |
My Pom use to get 2 a week and had a lot of stomach problems. I switched her to greenies and her stomach problems cleared up. Now they say not to give them greenies. I don't know what to give them now. |

I did thought about greenies but there were some problems with it lately and I am not sure it\'s good for them anymore. I have also heard of dogs choking on rawhides so I picked out very big ones for my puppy - she won\'t even look at it. And I heard that cow hoofs are pretty smelly. Well my puppy does likes to chew on stuffed animal and went thru them way too fast. Some of them got their head ripped off and some of them were ripped open in a couple different places. :( After all the sewing, I still couldn\'t save them all. These poor stuffed babies. And pig ear is a still real controversy. However, I did not know some dogs are allergic to something in them until now. I got to help her with the teething so what else is out there? Anyone? |
