What Pet Insurance Do you have and Why?? I am currently looking for insurance for my little 2 y.o. He's a rescue, so I know of no pre-existing conditions(yet), nor do I know his lineage. I've read some of the threads on pet insurance, but am no closer in choosing one. I know that want emergency type insurance. If I have to, I can handle paying for dentals, vaccinations ect. out of pocket. It's the "sick" times that worry me. That's when the vet bills can REALLY rack up quickly. For those of you that have pet insurance, can you tell me what kind of insurance you went with it and why you chose it?? Do you like having the insurance?? Has it been well worth the money you paid?? I know that some people don't have it, and instead they have an emergency fund they put money in. |
I have VPI insurance and have had really good luck with them so far. They pay their claims in a timely manner and I have never had a problem with coverage. When the policy is up this year I am going to look around and do a price comparison, Sophie Kate will be due for her dentals again and the coverage I have does not cover dentals. |
I do have two yorkies in Petplan ! Thank goodness that I don't' have to claim anything yet. that is just for peace of mind for me. I do have a client who has VPI and her two french bulldogs had accidents and one got herniated disc and had surgery and one had eye surgery and the VIP worked great for her! half of the money came back both time. I do also has winless plans for my two girls :) but not the dental covered. |
I used to have Pet Plan and now I have Healthy Paws. I like HP bc of how/why they raise their rates and how they do their deductibles. Pet Plan is great too - I just don't like the reasons for which they raise their annual rates. |

It looks like with Pet Plan, if I am reading it right, you have to pay the deductible for each condition. |
I have pet plan and yes, you have to pay deductible with each event. I originally had trupanion which I liked very much but when renewal came the increase was ridiculous. |

My little guys been vaccinated and neutered and had his teeth done. He was also at the vets not too long ago because of his anal glands. I am wondering if either of these count as a wellness check or if I have to take him in again?!? |
I have VPI and have been really happy with it they pay really good |
We have embrace and so far we like it. |
I just looked at Embrace and like that they have a Wellness Plan option. |
I have 2 on PetPlan & 1 on Trupanion. I like working with Trupanion better. I just feel better about their customer service. They have better follow up & are easier to reach via phone. My deductibles for both PetPlan & Trupanion are "per condition". So, for example, if one of mine has a recurring ear infection, I only pay the deductible once. Trupanion has one plan - they pay 90% of your costs with no payout limit. You do choose your deductible & there are a few riders you can choose from like an "Additional Care Package" that covers rehabilitative therapy, behavior modification, kidney transplants, etc. Here's the complete list: https://content.trupanion.com/files/...re_package.pdf I did get the Additional Care Package option. PetPlan has different plans you can choose from - you choose the percentage of reimbursement & the deductible. PetPlan's standard policy covers hereditary & congenital conditions, however they do have payout limits. I think a wellness check would be an annual physical exam - not a vet visit for an illness issue. |
I have PetPlan and it has been good so far.I hate when the rates go up so much every year so I may have to raise my deductible. |
