Boarding during Christmas My husband and I will be traveling to Orlando this Christmas to meet up with my family, and I'm so excited! Originally we were going to drive, save money, and Chevy could ride as well no problem. I've been looking up ticket prices for awhile now, and found a decent ticket, so now we would like to fly, to give us more vacation time. The only thing is now we would have to purchase a ticket for Chevy ($125 each way), plus pay for boarding. I honestly would rather he fly with me and be with me in Orlando, and not all the way back home in Texas for a week. We took him to visit a nearby boarding facility yesterday, and he squirmed in my arms the whole time trying to leave out the door we were walking around, plus the place smelled like poop. I will spend the money to have a peace of mind, and be near my baby, but suggestions are welcome. Oh and by the way I'm using DogVacay.com and found an older couple who lives 10 mins from Disney, who have great reviews! |
If I were traveling, I would want to take my little one too. If u are only 10 min away, u can visit and/or if any problems arise, you are right there! Id feel a lot better about boarding my dog that way. Has your pup flown before? How do you think they will take the flight? |
I flew to go and get him from the breeder and he did great on the plane. Didn't make a peep, so I'm not concerned about the flying part. He doesn't like to ride in the car though. |
Does Disney have any doggie friendly hotels or boarding area?? If they don't, it seems like they should. They'd make a killing if they offered a vacation for the dogs while their owners got to play in Disney!! If you do stay in a dog friendly hotel, you could always look into sending your pup to doggie daycare/camp during the day and then pick him up at night to stay at the hotel with you. |
Take him By the time you pay for good boarding, it will probably be just about the same price as staying in a dog friendly hotel. If you are staying in a hotel that is. It's worth the peace of mind. I no longer fly. I get very sick so if we do go on vacation, we drive. The medication for nausea makes me sick. I'm miserable and couldn't watch the pups anyway. I know it is very expensive here to put dogs in a kennel. Plus all the cost for shots they must have for kennel cough. Last time Piper got very sick after being in a kennel. He coughed for a week and it was back to the vet for more medicine. Sooooo take him with you is my advice. |

Yes, Disney has a facility, but my family used them once before, and their dog came back traumatized. If you look at their reviews, others have experienced the same with their dog too. |

The kennels at Disney look okay...but I opted to leave my pups behind for my upcoming trip. It's a short trip, there's 2 dogs vs. 1 dog, plus I felt better about leaving my dogs in their home where they are familiar.and comfortable. We got my best friend who lives right across the street to pet sit so she can hang out with them for a few hours, feed them, leave, and easily check back on them later in the day. I'm also traveling from Texas to orlando but we are driving. 14 hours with the toll roads. Leaving tonight! Hope you have fun whatever you decide. I'd definitely rather them stay home if you had someone you trust who could do it. No chance of them catching kennel cough, no anxiety of being boarded, and quieter. |
He's coming with us, and staying with a couple from dogvacay.com. They stay 10 mins from Disney, and said they would have a nice Christmas with him :) |
