WARNING-to All Just wanted to share what happened to my father this afternoon. He was on their deck w/ Cody and Abby. Half the deck is screened and there is a door leading to an open, unscreened part--they can get in and out b/c the bottom screen on the door is loose...just for that reason. Cody and Abby were on the open part and came running into the screened part where he was sitting...they were growling. Before he could get up to see what was wrong, a HAWK came flying in through the bottom of the door! Apparently it had an eye for a tasty Yorkie snack! He grabbed the dogs and ran in the house with them, but was stuck with a po'd hawk in the screened in porch. Needless to say, they got the hawk off the porch, but thank God he was right there. None of us ever let them out unless we are there too..but for goodness sake, this thing came after them with him just feet away! Just a warning to everyone. |
OMG how scary!!! good thing your dad was there! that could have been terrible! |
GEEZ that hawk was determined. That must have been pretty scary. It's a good thing your dad was able to scoop the babies up, before the hawk could do what he came to do! Thanks for posting this. |
OMG! That's so scary! I'm glad that he saw that crazed hawk! |
Wow that's scary! Thanks for the warning. |
We actually know someone who had a very small pup and was on the porch and watched a hawk get it and carry it off! Therefor, we've always been cautious not to let them wander far or go out alone. From what I hear, once the pups were safe and they had to deal with how to get the hawk off the porch, it was quite a funny site. Since both doors exiting the porch were locked from the inside, someone had to go out with the hawk to unlock one of them. They said my dad went out and hid behind a piece of craft poster board and a cookie sheet! |
OMG! Good thing he was right there and picked them up fast. I'm glad they're okay. |
Sure are glad to hear they are OK! Oh my, that is scary!!!! Happy New Year! :D |
Wow! What size was the Yorkie? What size was the Hawk? Do they live in the city or the country? Where did all the mice go? Sorry, but that's scary. I thought that Hawk's liked smaller meals, I heard that this could happen and always kept a watch but more for the big dog the neighbours have. I never see anything but pigeons and seagulls in the city. |
 That is sooo scary! I am glad he was there to get them and nothing bad happened! |
Ive heard of that in Portland, a friend lives in my sisters neighborhood has a mesh cover over where she lets her yorkies out to pee. They will not let them play outside because of this same reason. I have never seen them where I live, theyre only about 10 min. away. What a scare!!! Damn hawk got what it deserved a mouth full of wire :D |
Wow! Thank God he was there! Sometimes, those dern hawks can be so determined they don't care if a huge human is right there! |
Oh my gosh, how scary. Im glad that the pups are fine and that your dad was there. |
That is crazy. I have heard way too many hawk stories that did not have a happy ending. One lady I remember had her dog on a leash and next thing you know he is being attacked by hawk! Please be careful if you have hawks in your area! Our babies look like a feast to them! Ugh :( |
My mom and I live 3 blocks from one another in a subdivision type area of a relatively small city. We are always on hawk-watch. We saw a redtail hawk just the other day hovering above about a mile away and warned each other about it. My mom has 3 yorkies and a maltese along with a lab...and I have the 5 yorkies and a cairn terrier. All of which would make a lovely meal for a hungry hawk. It has happened in this are before and we are not taking any chances! |
