Grooming question Do you have the hair on their ears clipped? Someone told me I should do that. FiFi, (we adopted when she was 4 - she's 7 now), held her ears up all the time until several months ago. She now only holds the left one up (nothing wrong with ears). She has a lot of hair on her ears. Oh....and she's absolutely beautiful. :) Jazzy (we just adopted last week) is 4 years old and her ears are straight up. I notice they don't have nearly as much hair on them. The hair is much thinner and gets longer as it gets toward the base. Should I look for a groomer especially for a Yorkie? |
Yeah. It's kind hard to groom them correctly until you've seen the normal york cut. Take them a few (3-4) times and you will start to memorize the cut then you can try it for your self. Don't be afraid--it's only hair--it WILL grow back. =) good luck |
The top third of the ear should be shaved sort of like a V, both on the outter ear and the inner ear. This helps them keep their ears up. I have a drawing of how it should be shaved on my site's grooming page here. http://yorkieviews.com/grooming.htm . Scroll down to bath preparations to see the drawing. |
i do toby's grooming myself...... its really easy, clippers are the greatest investment.....i leave the hair on his ears long sp they WONT go up :p |
I am going to get some small easy to manage clippers. When you pluck the insides of their ears do you put something on it first??? My pup needs this done. I am not looking forward to it. Seems like it would hurt!! |
they have ear powder at the pet store that is supposed to make the hair easier to hold on to |
Oh thank you for your responses! Thank you MM for the link. I will print that and take it to the groomer next time. I knew there had to be a pattern that should be followed. I probably should get clippers and learn to groom myself. Six of the seven little dogs we have require grooming. They don't go every month, of course, or I'd go broke! But they go often enough to keep the shape of their cut. They go often enough that the hair is kept plucked out of their ears pretty good. The one I have the most trouble with is my ShihTzu and he really doesn't like me to do it so it can be challenging! :) |
