Itching around the mouth Hello Yorkie Lovers- I have just adopted a beautiful 2 year old female biewer terrier, healthy looking eats, plays, etc...she appears to have a red rash around her mouth and and muzzle area & it looks tender and red and she rubs her face on the carpet - the lady I got her from thought she might have food sensitivity -has anyone else ever seen this with their yorkie or biewer - her food has been changed and now she is on royal canin chicken & rice...I will be taking her to the Vet. next week-I didn't know if this sounded like something anyone else had seen. :animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa thanks so much for your input |
Poor baby. No input with regard to cause. However, please take a flashlight and immediately check the pup's airway and tongue to make sure there's no constriction. Listen for changes in breathing. It's possible for an allergic reaction to swell mouth, throat, tongue, and nasal passageways, either partially or (heaven forbid) completely. Periodically check and compare to previous checks until the vet visit. Please try to get the appointment moved up. |
She had the rash before you changed food? Royal Canin can cause allergies. I would change to a vegetarian grain free food. And get to the vet ASAP. I wouldn't wait. |
I'm not sure about other toy breeds but majority of these little ones seem to be sensitive to food. Just going by your description, sounds like allergy but I could be wrong. It's best to feed them food that is grain free and if you can afford it, both grain free & holestic food. (This is my own personal opinion. :) ) The allregy also could be environmental. Personally, I'd change to a different food first and try to eliminate other possible sources one at a time. Could be some detergent, perfume, etc.. If ever in doubt her health, go to the vet. Magnus had similar issues couple years back. I took him to the vet and she said he had a mild skin infection from all the rubbing/scratching. Turned out to be allergies so whenever I see him rubbing/scratching his face, I give him benadryl. I hope she gets better soon! |
