Stressed yorkie= shedding? Draco is 9 months, with silky hair. His hair has been thinning/shedding a lot more than I'd expect. when he was a little younger I noticed the hair only coming out in the brushes and it was puppy fluff. Anyways, I use Espree products for grooming, except the grooming Spray I use Vets Best Conditioning Mist because I'm allergic to lavender which is in the Espree spray. He's been eating Royal Canin for quite some time, and his treats are the same. So the only thing that has changed is the time I'm away from home. I started school and am now away from home an extra 8hr on Mondays and 2hrs on Wednesdays. My sister stops in him on Mondays. I live alone and work 4-5hr nights M-F. This is the only change, and I feel it might be stressing my baby out. It's only just started cooling down here. But I started getting really bad dry skin a month ago, maybe he is too? His skin doesn't look irritated at all, no bald spots, no fleas, and no flaking. Any Advice? His shedding really is a lot more than I'd expect as he sheds on my couch and me sometimes, but it's his entire coat and not just one spot. So I really feel it's stress especially with yorkies having a history of separation anxiety. |
Poor Draco! I don't have an answer but I'm sure someone does. Bumping this for you |
dog I wish I could help you with this problem. He should not be shedding so much. I wonder if it is the food. A lot of times dogs develop sensitivities to dog foods. I would probably change that R.C. to Wellness and try that. I know there is stress for this little guy but you have someone coming in and I hope you can find the cause of this. I always look at the food issue because it causes a lot of problems with dogs and their coats. Mine do well on the wellness super 5 complete health. I mix in a little of the wellness chicken wet with it. Hope this helps. |
Royal Canine actually makes a perscription "calming" dog food. Wondering if anyone has tried it and how well it works?!? Is it possible that Draco is getting rid of his puppy coat?? Both of my boys were older when I adopted them so I've never went through the puppy stage with a yorkie so I don't know if they shed their puppy coat or not?!? |
Stress does make them 'blow' coat. I would do a well check exam @ the vet just in case just to see if he needs a skin scrape w/cytology to rule out any parasites or bacteria/ fungal infection. If he's clear, then maybe changing his diet will help. Princess has seasonal allergies & sometimes she'll leave clumps of hair on her bed & on my bed like she's shedding. She does itch a lot sometimes but never had any bald spots, just losing hair. Does Draco itch @ all? Hope it's nothing serious & Draco will be ok! |
