Anyones Yorkies afraind of fireworks Mollie has been going nuts for the last couple of days. It started last night with all the fireworks, she just starts shaking all over and they are still shooting off some tonight. I'm just about ready to tell whoever it is that enough is enough. Hopefully they are all done or will be before too much longer. Sadie my Chocolate Lab is also afraid of them and any other loud noises. Our neighbors behind us had a few trees cut down on Thursday and she was so scared that when I opened the door to let Wyatt & Mollie out she almost knocked me dow running in the door and of course I couldn't get her to go out so she was in for a little while and then when I knew that they were finished I had my husband put her out. It took just about everything he had to muscle this 85lb dog out the door. It was too pretty and warm on Thursday to let her stay in especially when the other two were going in and out. Sorry to ramble. Just curious if anyone else had this problem. |
Poor babies! :( We live in the city so it's against the law to shoot them in the city limits. I feel for your babies! I don't like them, either! |
I think, more times than not, dogs are scared of fireworks! Crazy thing is, Maddie isn't. She's scared of things like the vacuum cleaner and lawn mower, but fireworks didn't even make her flinch. She's not afraid of thunderstoms either! Weird little dog, she is! I AM glad she's not afraid, because I'd feel so bad if she was! |
Princess hates fireworks! We sit and watch the Macys show every 4th of July on TV. But to hear them outside, I just hold her and let her know it's going to be OK. |
There are several active threads going around about dogs and fireworks. There's a dog in South Carolina that took off because of them and is still lost. Eddie is terrified of them. I had to come home from work last night when he hid under the bed shaking and refused to come out for the mother in law. When same mother in law was watching him over last Fourth of July, he took off for the only time in his life and returned, terrified, four hours later. Someone suggested playing music or the TV loud to distract them and give them lots of hugs. |
Bouncer gets shaky and nervous around them so if I find myself with him and around them I always cover his ears and keep him tight inside his blankie and close to me. It makes him shake less and I think it gives him a better sense of security knowing his momma has him and won't let anything bad happen. Then they're done and he forgots about them and goes on to bark at everyone as if to say, "alright people, this is MY turf!" lol Bouncer seems to think whereveer we are....he owns that place. haha |

I figured that Toby would be afraid of the fireworks this past July 4th, but he actually watched the show. You could see him move his head up as they shot off and then watched the explosions. I didn't hear any last night, so I don't know what he would do if he just heard loud bangs and pops. We had a German Shepherd when I was a kid that was deathly afraid of fireworks and thunder. She would jump in a car that had the window partway down, crawl underneath a car, or try to get inside and go down in the basement. |
A lot of dogs are afraid of fireworks --- so I am sure a lot of Yorkies are too. Dogs are often afraid of lightening and thunder storms also. Carol Jean |
We took Jewels when we went to the fireworks and she just sat real good on my lap. She didnt get afraid at all. |
Since dogs' hearing is several times more acute than ours, it is no wonder they are so reactive to the noise of fireworks. Not only are they afraid, but the noise HURTS their ears. It would be like a gun firing near our ears.. |
Yeah, Tino is 7 weeks old, and for new years - the fireworks were going off but he didnt flinch. They didnt go on for that long but they didnt seem to bother him at all. I got really worked up about it too, worried that he'd be frightened to death. :rolleyes: |
