Pig ears/Big Bones??? Does anyone let there dogs chew on the pig ears or the big dog bones? I really want to get Honey something like that because she has small bones but they get soft after she chew on the for so long and then she doesn't want it anymore. Is it ok for them to chew on these? Does anyone recommend anything? |
I've given the big bones...he actually has one in his x pen now, but I stay away from pig ears. Our other dog almost choked on a piece when she was a pup and ever since then we've steered away. |
Pig ears have way to much fat in them for a yorkie. Bully sticks, antlers and other things that hard can break teeth so softer chews are better. One of our favorites is Get Naked bones. |

I say try it if you feel comfortable but make sure you are able to keep an eye on her when she has it. We use antlers too, but he has to be watched with that too. He's teething so anything that's hard feels good on his teeth at this point lol :) |

My boys love their bully sticks |
I bought these really great teething rings that are all natural and fully digestible. I will post the brand later. They are made with sweet potato, pumpkin, alfalfa and a bunch of other really good stuff. It takes Gizmo a couple hours to do one n lol. He's really funny when he gets one because he tries to constantly hide it, like this thing is too yummy for him to possibly be allowed to eat it :-) |

Gracie has been chewing bully sticks for 3 years and never had a problem. I know lots of other YT'ers use them as well. They are not that hard and as the dog chews them they do get soft but that is good because it helps to clean the teeth and gums. It will harden up again when the dog quits chewing. Pig ears are fatty and greasy. Little pieces can be torn off and could get stuck in the throat. Gracie has a small mouth and I have never given her big bones. Any cooked bone can splinter so I consider them dangerous. Raw bones are an option but there is the sanitary issue. With a big dog you can put them out in the yard with a big raw bone and they will love it but it is the kind of thing that can grow all kinds of bad bacteria because of it being raw. Most of the chew items you find in department stores and pet stores can be possible choking hazards. Be careful what you choose. |
