Question about coat types. 2 Attachment(s) After looking at everyone's puppies I have a question about hair. My Gunner has the most poofy coat. All other seem to have the long type flowing hair. I do blow-dry Gunner with a forced air dryer. Does anyone else have a poofy pup, or have you had one? How did the coat turn out? On the breeders website both mom and dad seem to look the same way as pups, how long does it take to get that beautiful hair? And I would like to add, I don't think I could love a dog this fast after my poodle passed away. I didn't forget her, I never will, but Gunner is filling my days with joy. He is the most playful dog I have ever had and amuses us at every turn. I added these photos of mom and dad as pups. Not as poofy, but close. |
I'm pretty new to the yorkie world. But, based on what I have learned so far, it sounds like your Gunner has a cotton coat. Jasper is more of a silky coat. It seems kind of thin on his head and he never gets tangles or matts. I believe cotton coats have very think hair and tend to matt. I hope this information helps you. If you want to see pictures of Jasper, look in my albums. :) |
just wanted to say he is adorable! |
I agree usually poofy pups have cotton coat instead of silky. A lot of owners with cotton coats keep their pups in a puppy cut/ short hair since they tangle more |
You have a beautiful puppy. Yorkies have a different type of coat in that they have no undercoat. The puppy coat can be quite thin on some pups and it may take some time for your baby to grow in a thicker coat. Usually the adult coat starts coming in at around 10 months of age. It will take months to get the full length. I always blow dry Gracie after a bath. I don't want her to get chilled and I don't want her rolling around on the floor or outside with damp fur. They usually look better blown out anyway. it's good he is learning to accept the dryer at a young age. Make sure you use a mild all natural shampoo and conditioner. It will help keep his skin healthy so his coat can grow in nice and healthy as well. |
