It Happened! Sophie is my first female. I had her scheduled to go in a week and a half to be spayed and guess what? Yep. She is in her first heat. Why am I crying??????? How soon can I get her spayed now? |

I'd wait about a month or two before the Spay. I think that it enhances their "Motherly Instincts" to have encountered one cycle. I frequently have Puppies around, and My Females take them right in just like they had them themselves  |
The same thing happened to me. I'm going to wait like 4 months to get her spayed. I figure it'll be before the 2nd heat and it'll give her more time for the growth plates to close. |
Lol.....same thing happened here. Bella was scheduled for the 30 the started heat the other day. |
One advantage to having a boy |

Oh my goodness I could not imagine. Luckily Gizmo is a boy and Cici was spayed when we got her. Good Luck and keep her inside away from boys! ;) |
That happened to me with a couple of my girls. My vet had me wait 2 months. I know it's upsetting but it happens a lot. |
As long as you keep her protected and watch for any fever or other unusual symptoms you should be OK. We had to wait a while before we had Gracie spayed because she was a bit on the small side. She needed to develop a bit more so she went through her first heat. We survived. Call your vet and tell them when she went into heat. They will schedule her for the right time to have it done. |
We waited a month before getting our yorkie spay after her first heat. |
Thanks Thanks all. NO boys around my little girl. Will call my vet on Monday. |
All four of my girls were spayed after their first heat cycle, as this was advised by my vet. Different vets have different opinions as to when to do it, but I trusted him. So, going through one heat is not the end of the world, and may have certain benefits. Just make sure she doesn't get pregnant, and all will be ok. |
