so glad your neighbor and rasta were there for you today. try to be sure to eat regular meals for you. if you dont put yourself first you cannot be there to help others. :)

Sounds like you have the makings of a diabetic service dog. You can train her to signs low blood sugar (they levels of different scents on your breath). Just every time you test your blood sugar blow gently on her face if it is low give her a treat. She will soon be able to recognize your different levels and warn you. My friend (type 1) did this with his morkie (4 lbs) and now has a well trained pup to help warn him.

I am sorry you had that issue. It can be very dangerous, as you know. I am not, however, surprised in any way by Rasta's actions. I am a huge 'supporter' of 'animal intelligence' because I have seen so much of it over the years, so I would like to welcome you to the 'dog's are people, too' club. :sidesplt:

...sounds like it might be something you'd want to look into...it might work really well for you with your busy schedule. :)

Max sounds wonderful, and it sounds like training Rasta to be an official service dog could be a great idea. Even if not official, if he does like Max, he is worth 10 times his weight in gold. I have a cousin who is type 1, and after she got divorced (before she remarried) I was really concerned about her being alone, as her ex had to intervene several times when she became very hypoglycemic. If you have a dog that can warn you before you get to that point, it is wonderful! There are also ways to train a dog to dial 911 using 1 button, preprogrammed phone in case of coma or seizure.
