Yorkie TopKnot Problems??? WhenI take Honey to the groomers they always cut around her eyes and above hereyes. I tell them that I don’t want the top knot cut but they seem to do thisevery time. I have been trying to grow it out it is hair at the front that can’tdo into the top knot from them cutting it. What should I tell them to do or notto do next time I take her? I really want it to look long and pretty and forall the hair to be able to go in the top knot but I don’t know anymore.:( |
You have 2 options: impress upon the groomer not to cut around the eyes. Be very specific and point out on your pup the areas that should not be cut. Explain in detail that you are trying to grow a topknot. If the groomer still cuts, complain and ask why they are NOT listening to your instructions. It's so frustrating that they aren't listening to you. Option 2: groom at home. I do all of my boys' grooming at home. |
I think if I made it perfectly clear not to cut a specific area & they did it anyway, I'd either not pay or demand a refund. Part of their job is to take instructions, not just wing it and do what they feel. Look for a new groomer and maybe take in pictures of what you want and write down if you have to "DO NOT CUT AROUND EYES!!" How frustrating for you to have to spell it out like that, but you do what you gotta. |
The lady that I take him to is really good but when it comes how I want the topknot done she likes to do her own thing. I really would like to groom at home but Honey is not having it. Maybe it is something I am doing wrong to make her not want me to groom her. Maybe I need to just learn. |
I'd refuse to pay if my groomer didn't listen and I'd find a new groomer. |

[QUOTE=Faboosh;4337572]I think if I made it perfectly clear not to cut a specific area & they did it anyway, I'd either not pay or demand a refund. Part of their job is to take instructions, not just wing it and do what they feel. I usually groom Cali myself theses days except for a few times a year my local breeder/groomer gives her an I depth grooming. But, in your case, with the problem you are having I would be sure to put it in WRITING specifically what you want and don't want! Good luck! This can be so frustrating  |
I wonder if you "owe" someone for "NOT" performing the "service" you "hired" them to do.:confused: Is there another groomer you could use? If so, you might talk to a new groomer, explain the problem you are having with the current groomer (repeatedly cutting hair you said NOT to cut) and see how they react. If you switch groomers, you also might even let the current groomer know they are losing a customer BECAUSE they refuse to allow the topknot to grow out, as requested by the pet owner, and cut it off WITHOUT your permission. Another thing you could try is to take a band and bow...go to the 'dollar' store and get a cheap but cute clip in maybe...even Kmart had some cute, inexpensive infant hair bows in their "baby" section...something you won't care about if lost, or a tiny scrunchie...the Family Dollar I went to a few months ago had bags of 300 for $1-$2, etc...WHEN you take your baby back to the groomer next time, and say that the topknot is to be grown out and ask the groomer to put the hair ornament(s) in to hold the hair up after the grooming is complete. ;) With physical 'evidence' in hand, perhaps she won't forget. :D I am sorry you are having this trouble. I like the topknot up...hate the 'visor' / 'bangs' hanging down into the eyes...but worse, it is awful when people 'ignore' you, especially when you are paying for their services. ;):D |
I would look into a new groomer. I never have any issues with my groomer when I tell them to keep the top knot. They even groom Mia to have the top knot in so when I pick her up, they already have it up with a nice little bow in it. Growing out a top knot feels like it takes forevvvver. When Mia got her first groom, she luckily had enough for them to do a little baby top knot so don't let them make you think it cannot be done. I am pretty lax when it comes to how I want them cut so my groomer is usually the one to throw out what she can do and what she thinks should be done before she starts. I ended up having to get Mia all shaved last time I went but the one demand I had was to keep the top knot, otherwise, I would not be able to tell Geno and Mia apart. They complied and would have immediately told me when I dropped them off if they would be able to salvage it or not, which they did. This is the kind of service you should expect from a groomer, not one where they don't even listen to what you have to say. It's your dog. You have to look at her every day, not them haha |
The big problem is I am in a small college town. I have took her to three different groomers. The first one I didn't like but the other ones still tend to cute the front hair. I think they have their own way of how a yorkie should look here. I have took pictures for them to go off of but they still tend to do what they want here. |

I couldn't imagine a hair stylist trying to pull something like that and stay in business, so a groomer? Yikes, the cajones on them! |

They did the same with my Lennie, cut off his fringe which i had just gotten to the right legnth and also his eyelashes!! I specifically told her not to cut the above his eyes, safe to say i demanded a refund ! It seems that they have a generic way of cutting different breeds and they dont ever do much different. from now on im grooming lennie at home! |
