Exercise Pen /or/ Own Room? I was getting ready to purchase an exercise pen from Amazon. Something similar to this... Zebra Pet Dog Cat Tent Puppy Playpen Exercise Pen Crate:Amazon:Pet Supplies The dogs do have their own bedroom. Still undecided if they will sleep with me. Should I just let them get used to their bedroom or start them off with an exercise crate.? Any suggestions will be appreciated. |
I would choose the room!:D |

I guess my ? Should inquire about *** re: Potty Training Purposes*** |
Because I have an open staircase I use a xpen. I got this one which is so nice Expandable Pet Pen Medium w/Floor Tray , as you can also get a top for it for the yorkies that can climb well :-) Gizmo got the top lol, I only put it on when he is home alone. It's also really nice because it has a tray underneath it that protects my wood floors :-) |
We have a room upstairs with an x pen, toys, pads, food bowls, etc. Also have an x pen, toys, food bowls downstairs in the living room. When I'm downstairs both the dogs are too. When it's time to go to bed I put Rasta in his room upstairs and Roxie stays downstairs with her daddy. I trained him to use the bathroom outside but at night I dont go out after 9 so he uses the potty pads then. So I guess he's trained to use both. |

Once they sleep with you, they probably will never sleep in their own bed, so make certain that's what you want. Mine both sleep with me...in their snuggle sacs. |
Mine would rather be in a playpen with/near me rather then in a room away from me. |
Summer Infant Secure Surround Playsafe Playard|Meijer.com This is what I have, can't go wrong. Very durable and he can see anything we are doing. |
Our pups have their bedroom upstairs and ex-pen downstairs. The only ones that sleep in the bedroom though, are the cats. I would HATE it if they didn't sleep with me! |
I will place them both in crate and with me. They will learn both are okay. While of course taking them to place whenever they are potty training. |
I agree. If they want to snuggle. Im all for it! |
My two girls sleep with my hubby and me. They are spoiled rotten! |
My Hubby and I had to upgrade to a king size bed because it was too crowded with the 10lb Yorkie and the 35lb mutt in bed with us. Go with the bed it's so nice especially in the winter time :) I say let them in the bed. |
Bonita have you ever had a problem with them having an accident in your bed? Oreo has slept with me once or twice but I'm afraid he will have accident since he is still just a puppy. |

When we got Billi we had a 3'x3' square pen area set up for her with her bed, food/water & a potty pad. It's sort of like her own room in our bedroom. Then we started letting her sleep in our bed about a month ago and since her spay, we've allowed her to free roam the bedroom. She's never gotten into anything she shouldn't, so we're fine with that. Still won't let her roam the whole house tho. She prefers just the bedroom. Don't think I'd give her her own seperate room in the house tho... She's rather be with us and we'd rather be with her :p |
This is the ex-pen I used for my girls until they became more potty trained. You can get extra panels to make it bigger, and can keep their crates in there, beds, potty pads, food & water. It is light weight and easy to move. I loved having it to take out on the lawn or patio to keep them safe when I was outside. Also great to have a safe place to put them when they were little if company came over and there was danger of getting stepped on. Now that my girls are all grown up, I use 2 panels of the pen as a gate inside the front entry so they don't dart out the door. ![]() |
NO never. At first I WAS paranoid because she was SO little, if I would feel her moving around, I would just get up and take her out. Maybe 2 am or 4 am........but NEVER wet the bed. Like I had mentioned, They do sleep in the snuggle sacs I made them from little on so I always know where they are. They liked to crawl UNDER the blankets by our feet and that's a no no, SO now they stay put allllllllll night in the snuggle sacs. Maybe you'd like to check out my snuggle sacs on my website? :):animal-pa |
My Molly has her own bedroom. It's just me and my husband and no children so we had the extra room. When we first got her she slept in my room in her crate but she was wearing me out getting up every 2 hours to potty. So...since she was doing very well using her pee pads we thought she might like her own room. She has more room to roam and play especially since the both of us work days. This way she's not confined to a very small space. Her crate is in there for her to sleep in and her food/water bowls and plenty of toys. :) We just recently put a small heater in there to keep in warmer at night for her. I was worried that the electric heat we are accustomed to might not be enough for her cause it seems to be a little chilly in there. Not now though. The secondary heat works perfect and I only use it at night. I don't want to leave it on during the day when I can't supervise. She seems to do fine in her own room. When I'm home though she stays out with me. She can come and go to her room as she pleases. And she does when she wants different toys or food or water. :) The only thing is I can't seem to get her to go night night on her own. I have to carry her to the crate and put her in myself. I could use some advice on how to get her to go to bed in her own when she's ready. Right now she stays in my lap till I put her in the crate. Good luck in whatever you choose to do for your baby. |
I have own room, playpen, and xpen....I use them all and I make sure I do...because life changes all the time! I want them to be use to everything. |
