WeeWee pads! ...HELP
 
Nino is starting to tear up the weewee pads and I'm not sure what to do every morning I go to feed him the pen is a mess with tore up pads and I don't want him to eat them ..it's been a little habit for about 3 days straight & last night when I came home it was the same thing tore up pads ..so I just need to know what I can do to prevent that from happening he hasn't done it before the whole two weeks he's been here ..btw he is 12 weeks old I'm thinking if I might have to do crate training instead of the xpen & just time his potty breaks I'm afraid unsupervised he might eat up the pads .but any suggestions would definitely help ..

I would recommend using washable wee wee pads. I have a new puppy, too and while he didn't tear up the pads, he pulled them all over his pen, flipping them over. He thought they were a great form of entertainment. ;)

I have a pad holder that holds it in place. It also protects the floors. I found it at Walmart and it holds 24x24 pads. I have never had a problem with my pups playing with it or trying to tear them up. Good luck!

I would buy the washable pee pads and then anchor them w/ bricks so that he learns not to pull them around/play with them.

I agree, pad holder or washable pee pads. I use washables, but my girls will use both and will go outdoors, so paper ones are great when traveling. At the airport I put the pee pad down, they pee, and into the trash it goes. So, I guess my point is, it's ideal to have them trained for both.

I got this pad holder when Gizmo started eating his pads Amazon.com: Rascal Dog Litter Box PIDDLE PAD...Amazon.com: Rascal Dog Litter Box PIDDLE PAD... , it works amazing,and their spray is awesome too. Gizmo immediately stopped tearing tem up once i got this type. They also have the artificial turf for it as it has a reservoir in the bottom of the holder, but I just use it with pads, because its easier to clean. I took off the sides for now, but if he starts lifting his leg as he gets older i will put them back on lol, they are really easy to snap into place.

Gizmo is also trained to go while our for walks as well though :-)

Washable pee pads! I buy all of mine from tbumpkins. Great quality & cute fabrics to choose from.

I used the pad holder.

Have you tried supervising him while he is in the pen to see what is happening? Does he have toys that he is interested in the pen? If he is getting board he may be ripping it up because of that. If he isn't playing with his toys try switching them out for different ones.

I went to walmart and got George brand portable baby change pads.
They are completely terry cloth, washable, bleachable, and fabulous as they have a plastic backing and incredible cheap

I had this problem with Hannah even with the pad holder! She had plenty of toys but the stinky pads were just more fun to play with. I replaced them with washable pads because I was afraid she would choke on the others. I have 8 week old puppies on the disposable pads (in a holder) and they love to rearrange the pads as soon as I place clean ones in their X-Pen. Little stinkers!! The washable pads are cheaper in the long run. With my pups I have just about gone through a 100 count pkg. of the disposable pads in less than a month!:eek:

I had to use a holder and it worked great. Could not use washable pads because then she then thought all (throw) rugs were pee pads - went back to paper pads and no problem.

This was the exact fear I had and why I didn't buy the washables. The big squirt pad holder works awesome because it holds the pads down super tight as it has prongs about 1" apart all the way around, with no open spaces like the folding type. It also has 9" sides that go on 3 sides, so it's more private for him. He has not torn up a pad or even removed it since. It's made by little rascal, and you can even use the artificial grass on it, but I just use the pads. It has a reservoir in the bottom tray to hold urine when using the turf, so when you use it that way, you only have to empty it every day or 2. Gizmo is actually still using it, but more often is holding it till his walks and then he goes outside :-)

Basically he is training for both inside and outside :-)

Well Sunnydaz, I think there are many here who have not had the problem we had. She just thought every thing that was a rug was a piddle pad! We may be the minority in this problem.

Trixie went through a phase of teeing up the peep ads when she was a pup and in the pen. She is good with them. She has always gone on the paper pads
but we still had the rug peeing problem...we solves it by getting rid if all the rugs in the house lol

I did get rid of a very large shag area rug in my living room, and replaced it with one that was about half the size, and not an accident since there. The stairs and whole upstairs of my house however would be impossible to remove haha. That is why I'm saving that area for his freedom till last :-) who knows he may surprise me, he's a pretty smart pup :-) I'm hoping he surprises me any ways in a good way hehehe.

Reading through the forums when I first got Gizmo, I read many posts of others that had the same problem :-) I'm just hoping once I let him in carpeted space of the house he will be so smart, like he is now that he will say to heck with that carpet, I'm going on my pads or outside hahaha. A girl can dream right?

I just said to myself maybe he's getting bored with his toys he's always playing with them but imma get some new things to get his attention ..as long as he's bitting on something he's completely happy teething problems lol ..he tears the pads up some days n some days he's fine & as for going to the potty on them he's doing great

He's doing great for a 3 month old I think I have all hard wood floors just incase of accidents lol
