I do not allow strangers to pet Ian, nor pick him up, even though he is very friendly, and very socialized with people and small dogs. Just my preference. |

I have never taken Gracie to PetCo or PetSmart or any pet place other than her groomer and the vet. We go for walks around our home and in a public park and that is where we meet most people. It seems to be the thing for people to take their pets to pet stores but it seems to me like a very bad idea. With so many people and pets there it appears to be a very good place to pick up an illness or even have a possible injury. I don't go to those places very often but the last 2 times I have been there in the past 4 years I saw people with very young puppies there! They are just inviting trouble. Why people feel they need to take their babies to such a place is beyond me. If someone's pup ever wiggled out of someone's hand in there it could be life threatening. |

Most people don't just pick up my boys, some do though. I don't mind when they are leashed to me. If they are not, I just tell them not to pick them up because they are wiggly and hard to hold onto. Dexter is usually in my arms anyways and people don't just try to take him out of my arms. I might not like that at all! |

I take my boys to the pet stores with me...but they are both adult dogs who've been vaccinated. I've seen people bring young puppies in there(one girl had a 8 week old shiz tzu) and that, I would not do...nor would I take my adult dogs to the pet store if I had a puppy at home. I do not let strangers pick up my dogs. If someone comes over, they can sit on the couch and let my boys come to them and sit on their lap...that way the boys are free to come and go. I'd be afraid that my boys would get scared and try to jump down and get away if someone picked them up. When it comes to the boys, I'd prefer people to look if they want, but not touch. I am totally overly paranoid and overprotective with them and I don't feel at all bad for being that way!! |
