Stupid question about heat cycle. My last Yorkie Megan had a heart condition, that kept her from getting spayed until she was 12, she had a major bladder infection that required emergency surgery, at which time she was spayed as well. That was four years ago, and I really never knew when she went in to heat. My question is, with a normal healthy Yorkie puppy, around 6 months old, what are the signs that she is going into heat? I want to get her spayed in November, but I think she might be starting her cycle. Thanks in advanced for any help and answers. Cheers Quad:aimeeyork |
You will see swelling in the vulva area. She will start cleaning herself more and also have a discharge. Kyra got real lazy also. |
Lola was like 7 months and one week when she went into heat. I thought I saw discharge one day and the next I noticed she was bleeding while I was brushing her. She didn't swell until she started bleeding. |

I think it can be easy to miss. A few weeks ago Cookie's vulva was swollen and later on I noticed a tiny bit of blood on it in addition to much more licking, but there nothing really obvious before or after. I talked to my breeder and she said it sounded like she had gone into heat from my description. She is about to turn 7 months in another week. |
