He is getting cold N'Stein is 20 months year old. Last winter I was able to get him outside the house at -10 with no coat on This winter is freezing even inside the house, when he is not on my lap he is sleeping in front of the electric radiator and I even tkink going outside for a walk. Is it possible that he's getting more sensitive to the gold with time? |
Hmm. That's weird. I could never have taken Macey outside at -10, she was freezing at 50! They get cold a lot easier than we do, especially at 3.5 pounds. I don't think it's anything abnormal that he is cold this time of year. How about a sweater during these cold months? Macey was wearing clothing almost every day once it started getting cold here, and she really enjoyed it. |
Also, Macey loved the electric heater as well. She would lay in front of it and lick it every once in awhile, LOL! It was good to her, I guess. |
It is possible that he is getting more senstive to the cold. I would definitely suggest warm coats and sweatrs fo rthese little guys becasue they do not have fur like other dogs and when they get chilled they can get sick just like we do. My Hefner refuses to go outside to pee on cold mornings even here in San Diego so I cannot even imagine what he would be like in real cold wether. Luckily he is pad trained. |
It's not real cold here right now - in the 20s-30s. My little Yorkie loves to go outside and doesn't want to come in (I usually have a coat or something on him). Alternatively, once in a while I catch him sitting by the heat register when he is in the house. I doubt he is cold in the house (it's warm) --but he obviously loves to snuggle up by the heat. It's like a cat lying in front of the fireplace. They love it. I wouldn't worry about it. PS - I would never take a little Yorkie outside (-10) with no coat on. It's too cold for them. They don't have very thick hair and they are soooooo tiny. Mine wears a coat or something all winter - even if its in the 30s or 40s. Carol Jean |
It's pretty simple, really. If he is shrivering or acts cold, then by all means put a coat on him. And at -10 there should be no doubt. Poor little guy. HE NEEDS A COAT! He probably needs a sweater in your house if you keep it too cool and if his hair is too short. |
When I reread your post, you said it was freezing inside. So please keep your little baby warm. Sweaters, blankets, heaters, whatever it takes. Thanks. |
Thank you all for your comments. It is interesting to read you. I just want to put one thing in perspective, here in Québec we are used to experiment extreme weather. During the summer the temperatrure is 25-30C, during the autumn is comes to 10-15C and in winter time it could me -10 to -25C. So we have time to get accustomed to tenperature and for us it's freezing when it.s getting around the -15C. I do have a lot of coats and sweaters for N'Stein don't worry, even do if it's hard to find something for a tiny little dog. And in the house is having his bed and blankets. I was just wondering how come this year he's getting cold. |
Hi--our weather in Maine is not unlike yours. My Edie loves the outdoors but anytime it gets below 20F or so, she really needs a coat. Even then, she can't be out for very long. And Edie is almost 7 lbs. |
Well its gotten down to 0 here and my dogs have went out without coats. They usually just go out and go to the bathroom real quick though. Any colder than that and I would put coats on them. |
