Help Hi My name is Kelly. And we have an 11 month old Yorkie named Enistein. He got very scared today when my daughters friend went to leave and he nipped her. When I came to see what had happened. He was shaking like a leaf and my daughters friend Had a little mark on her hand. He never did anything like this. Could he have bitten her out of fear and what can I do to make this never ever happen again. Thank you |
Sounds like Einstein was rather afraid. He needs probably needs to be around more people. Without being touched by those he is afraid of. I have similar problem with my Yorkie Teasell. She is very submissive but she is scared of my adult son, She also loves him strange they have this relationship that I can't understand. He pushes all her protective buttons and has snapped at him twice. Then she wants to play with her and he tries to treat her like he does his Pitbull.. It's odd. Do get Einstein out where she can safely learn that other people are fun to play with... |
If it was because of fear then he needs to not be forced to say hello. People need to wait for him to come to them not them going to him. Is he normally afraid of people? |
It sounds like he bit her out of fear....is your daughter's friend okay? If you're going to have guests periodically I would have them offer him a treat but wait for him to approach them first. Some pups just don't like strangers and I think that's okay :) but I wouldn't want him to fear strangers. If a stranger has a treat he may begin to associate new people to something "good". If he doesn't do well with that you may want to crate him when you have ppl over....I have to do that with my "stuck up" boy lol |
What was the friend doing, exactly, when this happened? That's important to know so that you know what caused/started the fear. |
Perhaps she approached him in a manner he was unaccustomed to and it scared him, what did she say, how old is she. Teegy has never bitten any one but one day a neighbours daughter was annoying him and he actually growled and snarled at her. My friends and I were entirely shocked by this. She is pretty annoying and I growl at her sometimes too. Now I just tell her she can play with them but when I say enough she listens to me as annoyed dogs will bite |
