Weight My baby Ella Mae is 5 months and weighs 1.8 pounds. She is my first yorkie. Is this size normal or is she very small? She is a little bundle of joy. |
Dolly was 5 months old when I got her & she weighed 1.8 lbs. too! Almost 10 years later she's a healthy 3.5 lbs. She didn't reach her full weight until she was about 2 years old! |
She is very tiny and I am very disappointed in the "breeder" that sold you such a tiny baby, you never having owned a Yorkie before, and having NO experience in how to care for such a tiny baby. She will gain a little more weight, but she will still be small.... These tiny little dogs require very specific care....remember a Yoirkie thinks it is the size of a great dane, and will act accordingly. That attitude alone results in a tragic number of Yorkies getting killed, because they have absolutely NO fear, and will take on anything, regardless of what it is. Their tiny fragile little bones and joints are so susceptable to breaks...their tiny little heads, if they fall from even a height of 6-8 inches, can result in a severe concussion with seizure activity that lasts a lifetime. Your "breeder" didnt tell you all this, did she? You have to treat that tiny little girl like she is made of hand blown glass, because she is just that fragile, simply because of her size. If this baby becomes sick or does not feel well, DO NOT WAIT 24 hours to wait and see what is going to happen....you take her to the vet immediately, as she has NO reserve, and she will crash and burn on you very quickly and you will loose her. You MUST make sure your vet is KNOWLEDGABLE in the medical care of small dogs, especially Yorkies....that vet is all that is standing between your baby and Death,,,,,it is YOUR responsibility to make certain you have the best medical care you can possibly find for this baby.....she has no say in anything that is done or not done to her or for her.....it is up to you to make sure the medical care she receives is the best and that the vet that is resaponsible for her health care, is up to date and KNOWLEDGABLE in the care of Yorkies. |
And I think my 4 month old puppy is small at 2.11 lbs, guess not? She must look like a tiny doll? I think you should be very careful! |
Yeah, she is definitely on the small side. Just take extra precautions as mentioned. I'm sure you love her big or small so just keep doing that and stay on top of heath issues. Congrats on your first Yorkie. Mandie is my first, too. It's an amazing adventure every day :) |
She sounds like a gorgeous baby, would love to see a picture of her |
So small. My pup was 1.8 at 2 months old. |
Wow she's a little tiny thing! Congrats on your first yorkie! I'm sure little miss Ella Mae is a cutie patootie! :) |
Kyra weighed 1.6 at that age and is now 3lbs on a good day right after eating most times smaller at 2 years old. Watch her closely because all that Yorkiemom1 said about these tiny little ones is very true. Be very careful of letting others hold her because as she gets older she will get braver and can leap from your arms in an instant if she sees something she wants to go after. We never allow Kyra to jump on or off things and also watch her teeth closely. For some reason the little ones seem to have to have cleanings more often also. Best of luck with you new baby. |
Congrats on your new pup |
congrats on your baby |
