Potty Training Reversed Hi. My Yorkie puppy is 11 months old and up until about a month and a half ago he was potty trained to go on a pee pad. He had been doing so well for the whole time we have had him and now all of a sudden he chooses to rarely go where he is supposed to. I am about 6 months pregnant and I am wondering if he is acting out because he senses the change. Him going all over the carpet is causing my husband and I great frustration because we really don't know why he is doing it now. He isn't showing any signs of illness. I'm just wondering what the best way to re-train him is and how to keep him in line especially since there will be a baby in the house soon. |
He could be sensing the baby. Can you play with him. Walk him more.. give him more attention? I know if we are really busy Peanut will act out. People say they don’t do things like that, but I beg to differ LOL. Maybe limit is area, close off some rooms so he has a small space with his pee pads.. You may have to start taking him to his pad as well, tell him to go potty when he does reward him. |
Thanks... We will give walks a try because he doesn't get those on a regular :) |

Have you done anything to get him use to a baby? I heard of some people getting a fake baby and bringing that around their dog.. |
We have had Nacho around small children and babies and he behaves very well. However, we have not introduced him to a baby or a small child in our home environment. The fake baby idea sounds interesting and I think I should give something a try. Thank you. |
Your Welcome! I found this link, it's long but has some great info. Bringing in baby Dogs need training to be ready for new additions to family GloucesterTimes.com, Gloucester, MA I've also heard of people putting a diaper on the fake baby with baby power so the dog can get use to the smell- with the baby. |
Is he neutered? If not, this could be the start of him marking. Also, a vet visit and urine sample to rule out a UTI would be appropriate. |
Yes he is neutered and he doesn't have a UTI... He is just acting out. :) |
I would first make a vet appt-anytime there's a big change in behavior a physical reason needs to be ruled out. This exact thing happened to a friend--she thought he was "just acting out" to punish her for being busy (dogs don't do things to punish us!). It turned out he had cancer and was dead within 3 months!:( |
