The girls went in for dentle cleaning... Please say a little prayer for them! I'm a wreck whenever they go under...It's 1:40pm here, so need to wait about 3 more hrs to call the vet. This will be Mimi's 2nd & Princess' 1st dentle cleaning. They've had anesthesia free cleaning about a year ago, so they needed a thorough cleaning this time...I've been brushing their teeth every night, hope they don't lose any teeth! I stopped by Trader Joe's to buy some ground turkey & unsalted sardines. Gonna cook that up w/some white rice & mix it w/The Honest Kitchen Preference (for the vitamins & minerals) & give it to them tonight, yum!:D |
Good luck to your lil girls. It is always so hard to have dentals done, but a relief when they are safely out and home. |
Hope the get to keep all their sparklers. Their dinner treat sounds delicious!! |
Aw Jenny, they will do fine!!! I will be sending them prayers for a smooth dental and fast recovery!! Soon they will be home eating their fabulous meal!!! Speaking of anesthesia free cleaning how did they do it? I picture it not going over well... for some reason LOL Is it worth it? Can they really get the teeth clean? |

We used houndstooth & they were working off a holistic vet office. The vet checked their teeth 1st & ok'ed the procedure. They do a personality assessment on your dog & if they're a good candidate, good to go. They were really gentle & professional, I highly recommend! Edited to add: This would be a great alternative for older dogs or dogs w/health issues that they cannot go under. |
Sounds like you've been up-keeping their dental hygiene well. I have my fingers crossed for positive results for you! |

Praying for your girls. I'm sure they are doing great and they are going to enjoy a yummy dinner! |
What a treat! Your "recovery dinner" sounds great for your girls! Our vet has 2 little mix-breed dogs of her own (one is 1/2 Yorkie & 1/2 small Poodle), so I felt confident that she would do a good job in doing Taffy's tooth cleaning with the small amount of anesthesia, as she does it for her doggies. She said he probably would be 'alert' & interested in eating by p.m., and to let him 'rest' during the a.m. After he had been outside a few times to potty & had some water, he seemed to be perking-up. Vet said to Let him eat a 'mild' treat, like chicken broth, in the afternoon to perk up his appetite. So, after 3-4 spoonfuls of chicken broth, he walked over and ate 1/2 of his Wellness Puppy canned food (I did not mix in any dry kibble the first two feedings). I also rubbed a little bit of the vitamin gel, 'Nutra-Cal', on his tongue right before he got the chicken broth--the vet said that would be fine and the vitamins would help his system, but just a small amount. So, he was all fine by day two. |
Thank you everyone for your prayers & good thoughts! Going to pick up the girls right now, they did very well & no teeth pulled!:D |
Woo Hoo.. if you dont mind. I would love to know what to expect as far as how often generally they will need to get teeth cleaned. Figuring that I brush them daily. && about how much it costs for the cleaning. |
I am very happy to hear the girls didn't need any teeth pulled.:thumbup: How were they feeling the first night? Was it difficult for them to eat? |
Just checking in to see how the girls are doing today? Sounds like everything went well!:) |
good luck girls, the poor wee sausages, you are a good mama |

This was Princess' 1st dental cleaning under anesthesia. They did have to work on her a little longer, so her's cost a little more than Mimi's. Princess will be 5 years old on the 28th. She had anesthesia free cleaning done about a year ago (can't remember the exact time frame, it could've been a year & a half ago). I think that also helped keep her teeth clean between anesthesia dentle cleaning. The prices here in LA is outrageous, but different vets have varying prices, less expensive if it's further inland, away from LA. I took them to my old vet whom I trust (even tho it's farther away now since we moved) & he has the best prices. Pet Dentle month is Feb & you can get 10% off, but he gives us the 10% off any month. I got her complete blood work done a few weeks ago, so she didn't need the blood work done again, so it saved us a little. She had to have an antibiotic injection & more time spent on her meant more anesthesia (isoflurane) & more scaling/ ultrasound so her total was $296 (rounded off). Mimi will be 7 years old in Jan & this was her 2nd anesthesia dentle cleaning. She also had the anesthesia free cleaning about a year/ year & a half ago. Mimi didn't need blood work done either (she had her 6 month checkup & blood work done w/another vet recently) & no antibiotic injection, so her total was $191. It's weird bc I thought Mimi's teeth looked worse than Princess'! They're teeth are so WHITE, I think they can glow in the dark!:D |
