White french bulldog with tear stains
 
Hello everyone I need help I bought a frenchie and I know this is a forum for yorkies but as you can see I have 4 dogs and tears have been a main issue but for my frenchie puppy it's like a hard thing because she is all white. Some people have suggested angel eyes but I just don't like using it. So I rather look for other options so any frenchie owners out there what are you guys feeding your frenchie? And did you give supplements to your puppy? I really want my frenchie to be healthy and so far so good it's just the tears is a big problem I feed her blue buffalo puppy rice and chicken formula that's what the breeder was feeding.

Nursery water!!!! (I think this company should pay me for the advertisement. lol)

But seriously. My niece has a bichon/maltese mix. Bad tear stains. I gave her some of the nursery water I got to use on Zoey. I saw Ellie (niece's pup) yesterday. Her stains improved dramatically. One side is almost gone.

If you don't want to use chemicals, I strongly suggest nursery water. I've seen much improvement on Zoey as well.

I have seen a number of ways to rid a dog of tear stains...which, if I understand correctly, is caused by a fungus. The Maltese and Westie websites had a number of suggestions, and I purchased some 'pads' from PetSmart a couple years ago. I unfortunately do not remember the name, but they may still be available at PetSmart. However, I couldn't use them...the 'perfume' in the pads gave me an instant migraine, so I gave them to a friend who has a Maltese, and they used them diligently and said they worked great and their baby has a lovely completely white face now.

I am sure others will come here and help you with suggestions that have worked for them.

You might want to read the labels c.a.r.e.f.u.l.l.y on the different 'nursery' (baby formula mixing) waters...some have fluoride added...such as the "Nursery" brand purified water. Fluoride is a neurotoxin (you may recall that "sodium fluoride" was published in the media as being 'a chemical weapon' when sent to Syria recently ;)). I have also seen fluoride added to some brands of "drinking water" including the Publix (supermarket) brand.

But, the "Gerber" brand baby formula mixing water has no fluoride, and is often recommended here on YT.

I did try Angel Eyes on my Morkie and it reduced the tearing but didn't stop it completely. What helped the most was time. The second all of his puppy teeth were gone, the tearing stopped instantly. He now has a white face and NO tearing at all--without any supplements or anything.

LOL Good question. You can do both...let them drink it and wash faces with it...LOL But, I think the main object is to replace their drinking water with it. I can certainly see replacing chlorinated, fluoridated water with better quality, cleaner water.

I went looking and found a vet site who says that it is caused by "bacteria that, when interacting with the yeast, cause the formation of pigment and subsequent stain" at:

...where there is a 'discussion' of specific products and ingredients, some of which are contradicted and/or clarified on the vet link.

So, I absolutely do not know...there may be multiple causes, which probably means multiple 'cures' for the problem, too. :D

Thanks for the clarification. I'm used to saying "nursery water" out of habit. Although, the water I did get is Nursery brand, I got the one without fluoride. Perhaps I should dump the one I have and get the Gerber if that's more recommended.

I wouldn't think it necessary to dump it. It is the fluoride I'd want to avoid. The only Nursery brand product I've seen does have fluoride...it's a 'selling point' I guess. If the Nursery brand product you got doesn't have it, COOL!!!! :D It's not necessarily about the 'brand' but about the 'ingredients' in the package. :)
