My Yorkie hair in bad shape and breath stinks. Please help I just adopted a 2yr old Yorkie. Her fur looks bad and her breath smells bad. Please help me to improve this. Any advice would be nice. She's my first Yorkie but not first dog but never had to deal with this and yes she had a bath already. Thanks Shell and Sophie. |
Has the vet checked her teeth? Maybe they need to be scaled (cleaned?) Yorkies are prone to stinky breath if their teeth aren't regularly cleaned & brushed. Also, I purchased a great product from Wampum. I forget the name, but it's a breath spray. If you find a distributer of Wampum products, they'll have it. If you google Wampum products you'll find a few places that sell the stuff. It works fabulously!!! About the fur, can you post some pictures? A rescue yorkie may not be "pure" - even though it looks mostly like a yorkie. Yorkie's fur is like human hair. It's single coated. A good shampoo and rinse should take care of odor. The fur should look like yorkie fur - whether cut short or long. Make sure the vet takes a good look at her! Best of luck. Thanks for adopting a furbaby! Tracey |
When you say her fur looks bad...do you mean her hair just doesn't look healthy or is she matted?? If she is matted bad, you may want to think about cutting her short and letting her grow out again. If her hair just looks unhealthy, it could be because of diet or maybe an illness. My next question would be...have you taken her to the vet yet? Yorkies are notorious for dental problems. At 2 years old, she may need to have baby teeth pulled or she may need a teeth cleaning. I know my 2 year old already needs a teeth cleaning in the next 6 months. He also had to have his baby teeth pulled. |
It may be the previous diet also causing her fur to look bad. With a good diet and vet care things should improve it that is the case. do you know the yorkies history?? I also buy Tropiclean Fresh Breath Gel for my yorkie lola. This helps remove her tartar build up and gives her better smelling breath. it works really good for heavy build up use it every other night until you see much improvement. best wishes with your new bundle of love. |

She has gone to the vet and the other people brushed her teeth all the time. I don't know how to post pics. Her hair has been cut short before me. Shell and Sophie |
She might need a dental did the vet look at her teeth? I have heard certain foods can effect how a dog smells what is she eating? |
She has been checked by a vet for her teeth. He said she needed more bones not just toys and the previous owners feed her a lot of table scraps. I don't believe in that. Shell and Sophie |

I was recommended to take my Toby in to his groomers every month . They brush his teeth and shower him with special shampooing and conditioner . Also , our food can cause bad odor on our babies ... Speaking about bad odor Toby needs a bath :yorkiej: little stinky baby :tongue4: |
I would make an apt for the Vet.. do you have a vet lined up? Have him check her over, maybe schedule a dental cleaning. Have the vet also check her anal glands. Start her on a high quality kibble. Don't give her any table foods. Make sure she is UTD on her vaccines, then you can schedule her for a grooming.. |
