I pay $45.00 to get Zoe trimmed...I really never thought about tipping the groomer...I take her to a privately owned place that provides doggy daycare and many other things.....I will be really interested in reading more on who tipps their groomers......Great Thread! |
I groom Stewie myself now, but when I took him, it was $25. My aunt's cocker is $30. Anyway, I don't tip the owner of any shop - no matter what the service is. I do tip the other workers about 20%. |
I have used the same grommer for 15 years on my 2 yorkies (RIP) and my pom. They do a great job and started out 15 years ago charging me 10.00 for my yorkies in full coat! It slowly went up over the years. She now charges 18.00 for my pom who has a lot of coat. She is phasing out and has a new person working with her ab=nd I'm nit crazy about her so I haven't aken Cali there, but when I take the pom I tip 7.00 because she's so cheap. I took Cali to a new groomer a couple of months ago who also did a great job but told me when I interviewed her it would be 25.00 for a puppy and when I had her groomed she charged me 35.OO so I tipped her 5.00. |
Tips I tip but the amount depends on whether or not the cut is right. If it is exactly what I asked for, I tip $10 if not just a couple bucks. Grooming is usally around $40 here in Tampa. $60 if it is mobile. :aimeeyork Quote:

We pay 20.00 per dog when they go in for a cut and tip 10.00 so it is 50.00 monthly...I keep saying I am gonna do it myself but never do :( It is easier to let someone do it..... |
Tip! Tip! Tip! I always tip everyone I can... its like my way of asuring I will get in when I need to... I over tip most of the time... so when I need a rush appt.. they are more than happy to make room, I'm sure because of the tip! I also find that I get extra attention that way... a special bow, or nail polish (Yes my boy wore Red toes!), throw in a special condioning treatment cause she felt he was a bit dry, or a fun scent.... she would go the extra mile... Really fuss over him! one hand washes the other! Take good care of them and they will take good care of you! I know it sounds bad, but if good service is "for sale" I'm buying it! I always got same day appointments with my groomer! She charged $30 to keep Bamse Bjorn in a puppy cut and I would tip 20. I know... crazy! But she spent extra time on him every time cause she knew I would tip her well! And she was booked solid! It took me two weeks to get that first apt! I am a spur of the moment kinda gal... I decide its time and I go! lol i'm as high mantiance as it gets... but I am not snotty about it... I pay for the extra's... But in tips! Not services... Sure she could have charged me for the extras she did, like the special conditioning treatments... But she never would... It would cut into her tip! ;) Tip away! I was a waitress once... people live and feed their families on those tips! Find out who did the grooming and seek them out! Tip them personaly! They will be very touched Especially if they are at one of the petsmart or petco groomers... They only make minimun wage or just over! and they are worked like dogs in there.... no pun intended.. Make their day! Tip them well! |
I've only taken Pixie to be groomed once.... It was $25 and I think I gave her a $4 tip (it was all the cash I had on me!) :) I think they normally get tips there, she didn't seem surprised or anything. She just took it and gave me a quick thanks.... |

I use Petco in Tampa, although I live in Wesley Chapel, they charge me $21.00 for a puppy cut, and I tip $5.00. :) |

Wow! Some of those are really good prices. At what age should a yorkie get his first grooming experience and does anyone know a good mobile groomer in NYC? |
Mine has her own shop and boarding facility. She has had it for years now. She only charges me $16, but I always give her $30. She will also do us at our convenience and I love her to death! |
Most of the Yorkies I saw came in weekly for a bath, brush-out, nail trim, and ear tip/face trim when needed. Some tipped none, some tipped a couple of dollars, but most of the owners tipped about $20/mo, so $5 visit. |
Thanks for all the great responses. Wow, what a huge variation in grooming prices! Yikes, $60.00 in New York City? On the other end of the scale, I can't imagine a groomer even breaking even who only charges $20.00 (unless thats just a bath and not a haircut) I know a lot of the PetSomethings offer puppy packages that are really inexpensive. Something I found humorous: Top 10 reasons you should tip your dog groomer as well as or better than your own hair stylist 10. Your hairdresser doesn't wash and clean your rear end. 9. You don't go for 8 weeks without washing or brushing your hair. 8. Your hairdresser doesn't have to give you a sanitary trim. 7. Your hairdresser doesn't have to clean your ears. 6. Your hairdresser doesn't have to clean boogies from your eyes. 5. You sit still for your hairdresser. 4. Your haircut doesn't include a manicure or pedicure. 3. Your hairdresser only washes and cuts the hair on your head. 2. You don't bite or scratch your hairdresser. (I hope not anyway) and the Number 1 reason your dog's haircut costs more than yours: 1. The likelihood of you pooping or peeing while your hair is being cut is extremely slim!! |
You said it all! Very nicely put! |
I pay $25 for my babies to be groomed. I have never thought of tipping as my groomer is the owner of the shop and the only one who does the grooming. Hmmm...something to think about on our next grooming trip. |
