What's with the hair on her head of my 5 month old girl? Hello, newbie here :D My little girl turned 5 months old today. She is my first yorkie, and I have no clue if her hair is silky or a cotton coat - can anyone tell from the pictures? I used the flash on the camera, but her eyes just look dark! I have been reading and a lot of people mentioned that the they have noticed their puppy's hair on their head is oily... I'm finding that true with Lucy. I can bathe her and the next day it looks oily! But I am trying to condition her to grooming, and brush her everyday. I spray her with detangle spray, but the hair on her head is far more difficult to get a comb or brush through. Aw she is a cutie pie! It’s so interesting to see their color change. It’s like they turn into different puppies. Her head looks silky, and her body looks more of a mix. I heard the more the coat snags and tangles it is going to be more of a cotton coat...Don’t bathe her too often, maybe once a week.. if you can wait maybe a week ½ that would be best. Make sure you are using a high quality shampoo and conditioner. You don’t want to wash her too often, it’s good for them to have their skin oils.. washing them too much can dry their skin out and hair. Brushing her can be done and should be done daily. You can also play with her paws a lot, get her use to that so when it comes time for nail clippings she is comfortable with someone touching her paws. She is definitely a cutie pie that is for sure. That face is too adorable. |

Sometimes an area that hasn't been rinsed thoroughly enough will remain a little oily. I know Sophie does not like her head rinsed but I rinse it two or three times to be sure I haven't missed any shampoo while she's doing her ducking, weaving and other evasion tactics she has developed over time :rolleyes:. |
