Can't decide on a name This one I've been struggling with. I cannot stick to a name for my new puppy. At first I was going to name him Stewie, but then I thought maybe it sounds too similar to Zoey, and the puppy and Zoey might get confused..Then I found the name Onni, and really liked it and the meaning, but had second thoughts about it. Now, I like the name Simon, and Ichabod. I love Sleepy Hollow, and it's one of my favorite movies. I'm hoping once I pick him up I'll know his name. How difficult was it for you to name your dog? Names I have in mind: Stewie Onni Simon Ichabod Zeus |
I think it is very hard to name a pup. Every foster that I take in I agonize over a name if they don't come with one. They tease me at my vet because I change them a few times over the first couple of weeks. I think it just comes to you one day ... I believe it is better to wait a bit and watch them...I find if I don't worry to much about it, a name comes to me that seems to fit. |
Huey's name just fell out of the sky one day while we were visiting him and his littermates when they were just 2 or 3 weeks old. He had apparently been eating well and had gotten a little fatter than some of his litter mates. My husband picked him up and said "you are just becoming a baby Huey" ... we looked at each other, and that was that. He had his name. For those that don't know, baby Huey is the fat cartoon duck in my avatar frame. |
I say go with your interests. Since you say you like Sleepy Hollow a lot. Id go with that. For now. When he gets here && it still sticks after a few days after seeing his personality. Then set it in stone. I am a HUGE Disney fan so I named my little one to have matching names. That's the OCD in me as well. Hehe Good. Luck. It truly will come to you when you know it.! It may take time. Even after pup gets here. |
It will come to you once he arrives which name is the perfect fit! I love stewie and simon....best. good luck deciding. |
I like Simon too . It rhymes with diamond . Say the names out loud and see what clicks for ya. I pick names I wanted for the girls I never had:). My last yorkie was Lacey. Now I have a Zoey....but not just Zoey, Zoey Zandaya Esmirelda Marie......lol she's a tiny... |
I think you should go with a name that means something to you and the heck what other people think, tho...having said that...I really like Stewie haha. Zeus is a typical name for small dogs I hear a lot, much like: Rocho, killer, titan and the like...but who cares what I think! Right?? ;) enjoy you're new puppy, you lucky bum! :) |
If I had a pup named Ichabod I would call him Icky and it would make me laugh. I love that! =) Stewie is also super cute. I know a Chi named Simon and he is adorable, so I think good things hearing that name for a dog. Names are hard to decide! Sometimes a name hits as perfect and that is the end of it, other times, not so much! |
I like Ichy. hehe |
Names are very hard sometimes, other times they just pop in to your head. When my wife and I met my 1st Yorkie, we looked at each other and said Megan at the same time, when we met Gina she was already named by the breeder. We couldn't think of another name that we liked, so she stayed Gina. Just remember, you are going to be calling your dog's name out loud, for them to come to you. I like Ichabod, or Icky, for short, but do you want to be yelling this if he gets loose, or is hiding from you. Go with what feels right, for his personality, and you. Enjoy him when you get him. Cheers Quad:aimeeyork P.S. I would be willing to yell Icky, out loud, but that's just me. |
I like the name Simon. I'd wait until you actually get your pup to name him. I had a name picked out for my pup weeks before I got her and the name just didn't fit...well that & my then 19 year old son said it was a stripper name! So she became ZoE & it fits her and her somewhat quirky, although sweet, personality :) |
