today just wasn't our day After having an annoying encounter with Phoebe at Petco, I took my Stanley to the park. He's fearful of people, so I take him for socialization 4-5 times a week. I make sure no one touches him, and he's really making progress. People always comment on how cute he is, but usually keep their distance when I tell them he's fearful. As we were walking, an older man approached us. I guess he thought he was being funny, but he kept pretending he was going to kick or step on Stanley! I asked him to stop, but he kept on doing it. I really wanted to punch him (or kick him)!!! I had to scoop up Stanley & walk away before he ruined all the progress we've made so far. I just don't know what's wrong with people! |
How awful for Stanley and you. Kiko is fearful of people (except members of our household). I have a hard time convincing people that she doesn't like being petted by strangers. I can't imagine someone pretending to kick or step on her (even if she wasn't fearful). What's wrong with people? I think that is just mean spirited. I'm glad you were able to get Stanley away before that man undid all Stanley's progress. |
Don't you just hate stupid people!!! I mean, really!! Who does that???? |
Poor Stanley! I don't understand people either. Max is great with people, but we had a bad experience recently that has made him more cautious. A very large man wanted to pet Max. When I gave the go ahead, the man smacked Max on the top of the head. Max snapped at him and immediately went into the sit position (like he knew what he did was wrong). I was so stunned, I didn't know if I should correct Max, but I couldn't really blame him. |
I'm not sure what I would have done in your situation. But he would have gotten an earful for sure. I hope this one person doesn't deter you from taking Stanley out and about... |

and the disease is rampant in society! I am like electricity....I take the path of least resistance....if it hurts, I dont do it....I avoid all this social interaction with my dogs....these people do NOT provide any useful, important socialization for our pups,,,,they more often than not mess up any progreaa you have made with your pup....they create anxiety for my pup, and they anger me....I am at an age where I do not intend to let idiots drive nails into my coffin! Some do get past my "filters", but I am working on it! |

I sure hope he realized that what he did wasn't cute. |

I don't understand people... I'm glad you got Stanley out of there. Couver has a weird thing about people running. When I take him to the dog park (where one of the rules explicitly says 'no running') I warn people if they choose to run in the park. Couver will bite ankles, and some kids have tested it. Really pisses me off... I don't want my dog chasing you, so please don't run! |
I am idiot magnet!! Princeton has fear-aggression issues and people STILL try to touch him. I don't know how much more I can say other than "He's afraid of people and may BITE." The messed up part is...EVEN WHEN I tell them, if they continue to stick their hands near him and he bites, it is MY fault. WTH?? What dog is going to like or appreciate anyone, especially a stranger, pretending like they are going to step on them?? Sometimes I wonder where these people have came from where they learn no manners or socialization skills. I think the guy who did it needs to go to park himself ,more than your dog does, so he can learn some socialization skills! |

"Well I decided to SMACK you.!!" I wouldn't know why ppl do what they do even If I spent my entire life trying to figure it out. One thing I can explain is why my daughter is so loving and full of manners. HMMMMM... I wonder why.?? Love is the cheapest gift of all. Sad that some have no clue how to share or dwell in such a loving world. They would rather be surrounded by pain and misery. Hope you have a better day.!! |
