act of dominance? or puppy love? SO long story short I Finally found a tri sheltie (been looking for at least three years) that looks identical to my tica (13yrs old) I brought her home yesterday and she fits in Perfectly with my four yorkies and tica even mothers her. My only issue is Thunder my older male is constantly trying to hump her. He wont eat, drink or even sleep. He would rather hump Mia ( new sheltie) I don't know how to break this habit. Ive tried a spray bottle, a pop on the rear, making a loud noise, swatting at him with mail ( they hate that) but he is bound and determined to hump her. He has also started running around the house and marking everything when he cant get ahold of her!! Im so thankful to whoever invented the wraps.. Him and lightning both wear them in the house. Any ideas on how to break him of this? I hope he grows out of it. SOON! |
Perhaps try bathing her with the same shampoo as the others so that they all smell the same. Also give him time out in another room or crate. |
Out of interest is he castrated? New dogs can do odd things, when we bought Chips home our pensioner lacy went all playful. Then as soon as his testica were taken she went back all happy on the sofa .... I'm sure it will all settle down. I wonder if he thinks your new addition is his early Christmas gift.:D Can you perhaps crate him by her and give him something like a filled kong, so they are separate yet together so he gets used to her being around. I love the suggestion about bathing her in the same shampoo too.. Best of luck! |
He isn't castrated. I am going to try the bath soap thing. Mia has had to get a bath twice now since she came home because thunder has covered her in mud when they were outside. She is starting to fight back because she tired of it. ill try the crate thing tonight. they all sleep in their crates at night besides my oldest sheltie. |
