Another barking question At what age do Yorkies usually start to bark a lot? My pup is almost 16 weeks old. Of course, he has barked occasionally, but only rarely. Days will go by without his barking at all. His best friend is a Bichon that rarely barks. Perhaps this has been a help. And, when he visits and plays with other dogs or children - he rarely barks. But, believe me, he is a rough little player. I think he runs at least 100 miles every day in the house. Thanks - Carol Jean |
Kiki is 3 months old and he rarely barks also. He may bark occasionally when he hears something strange, but he usually never does. Even when he is playing around with my son he dosen't do a lot of barking. |
Mine didnt bark when they were younger. I dont remember what age is was when they started. I just remember being like you wondering when they were going to start. They are 12 and 11 months old now and bark like crazy. |
I'm not sure what happened but Chloe and Lacey were so quiet until recently. Now, the slightest noise brings a round of barking. It all started when Wayne passed away and they're driving me nuts. I sure hope they stop. They are one and 18 months. |
Mine was so quiet up until he turned 11 months. Then he "found" his voice and will not turn it off!! |
It has been my experience that single dogs don't bark as much as those in a "pack" or where there is more than one in the house to instigate one another. When one gets going they usually get the whole pack excited, but just like there are different personalities they will all be more or less vocal depending on who they are. Mine are all different. Chai is an alert dogs so she barks at noises and new people. Hefner barks for attention and when he wants someone to play with him. Ava is what I call a "talker" because she mostly "whines" but it is not an irritating whine..it is cute and gutteral. She will bark when excited but she will stop when she is told to. Just like us, they are all different...some quieter than others. |
I have noticed this with my dog also. He doesn't bark - but still is very vocal. Sometimes when he is playing I have to go and see if he is okay because he is making all sorts of different noises - whinning, etc. But, when I get there, he looks like he is talking to his toys. I definitely agree that one barking dog can get everyone barking. One of my dogs taught another one to bark. Now I have a Bichon that rarely barks - and my new Little Yorkie rarely barks also.
