She's afraid of flies.... Ella is afraid of flies. Like really afraid. She shakes and gets under my feet and can't just be normal if a fly is in the room. So we try to kill them, but the smack of the flyswatter scares her too. I love her but she is driving me crazy!!! Help! |
Aww poor thing. Me and Joel are opposite, I shake if a fly comes near me and he kills it for me:p Joel doesn't like whacking noises either. |
That is really sad. Never had a dog that was afraid of any sort of bug. Gracie was afraid of squeaky toys when she was a pup. Now they make her really angry and she wants to shake them to death. I hope your little girl is able to get over her fears. It is a terrible thing for a dog to have to suffer through unnatural fears. |
Awwww, poor baby...I know that can be scary and it is so hard to see them so scared because there is no way to convience them it is ok. Lexi is scared to death of hard vegetables...butternut squash, acorn squash, pumpkins I don't have any idea where that came from but if we bring them in the house she better not see them....honestly, she comes unglued....growling, shaking and trembling,,,,,,what is up with that?? |
LOL Zoey's scared of flies too. She'd go behind the couch to hide or anywhere she thinks the fly won't be. Just the opposite, Magnus catches them when it flies low enough. I saw a fly flying in front of him and Magnus nipped at it. It was gone... I jokingly said, "did you catch it? Are you practicing to be in the movie 'karate dog'? hahaha" Then saw him spit something out... I freaked out b/c he was trying to put it in his mouth again. I really didn't think he actually caught it. Anyway, whenever there's a fly, like you I try to catch it. But after I catch it, I show it to Zoey to let her know that it's caught and will be gone. Otherwise, she won't come back out... Have you tried those electric fly swatters? I think those are supposed to kill on contact so you don't necessarily have to smack them... |
Tibbe is spooked by flies - doesn't trust them at all and used to be scared of them at times. I've seen him actually leave the room a time or two due to a fly but now he just seems to watch them and I suspect he suspects they are up to something nefarious. He's not fond of them at all. |
aww , poor things.. my dogs are not afraid of flies but they will eat them , yuck.. |
It's possible she was bitten by one and now is afraid of them. I had a Rat Terrier, Sadie Mae Ann Louise, (she was Texan and thus had to have more than 1 name :p) that was bitten on the bum by a horse fly when she was just a wee small puppy. The fly drew blood! To her dieing day, she was terrified of the buzzing noise that flys made. As soon as she heard one, she'd scratch at her bum and then sit down on it, to try and protect it. After she got over the initial fear, she'd get up and try to kill the fly. She was a Rattie, fear just wasn't a part of her nature. :) |
Poor baby. My cousins dog is so funny with flies (well it's funny/sad). He's a medium sized ball of white fur and he tries to catch the flies, but if he fails runs upstairs and sulks for the next 2 days. I told her he thinks he brought shame upon the family. |

My Lexi kills files, too. If they get down low enough, they're hers. Yuck. A friend of mine had an electric fly swatter. It worked great. You don't have to swat, but it does make a noise like static electricity on contact with a little spark. I wonder if the popping noise and the sparking firey fly would scare her more? |
We have besides my furbaby Gigi, a rescue that is eight years old and weighs about 60 lbs. Guess what, he is terrified of any bug. All he has to do is see the fly swatter and he runs for the bathroom. We can tell when a fly gets into the house because he takes off. He has always been like that, he does not like to be outside because of the flies and other bugs. Lucky for us Gigi has not followed in Buster's footsteps. :) |
I'm sorry to hear that Ella is afraid and shakes. We have just the opposite problem here. Piccolo shakes around flies because she is going into her killer mode. I hate when I am brushing her a fly buzzes by. It takes everything I have to keep her on my lap. She likes nothing more than to chase them and eat them if she can. Yuck and super yuck. |
