housebreaking after puppy pads. HELP! Hi there. Wondring if anybody has any tips for me. I housetrained Tilly now 14 weeks to puppy pads and she was doing brilliant! We initially used the puppy pads in the house because she was so small - then because anything not concreted down goes in her mouth and for such a small dog its too easy to miss things she is picking up. After going over the garden with a fine tooth comb eradicating all small stones/ grass growing between slabs, soil etc etc we were finally ready for her to go outside. She had other ideas! Whilst she LOVES being outside she will not pee outside at all. I waited for her to have a super long afternoon nap today put on her harness and lead and took her into the garden.. She had a play, then as she became more uncomfortable obviously bursting for a pee she started to pine and shiver like she does sometimes, - I Thought if I just kept her out there with me eventually she would have to pee... NO - so I took out a puppy pad - No luck, so I took one already weed on out... still no luck- so I let our older dog out to pee in hope she might copy- no! After an hour and a half I gave up and brought her in - she ran straight to her pee pad and peed .. Any tips to get her to transition to peeing outside? |
All my dogs are trained to go outside on grass and were super easy except my little bear. He is almost 7 months and still will not go on grass, he pees on his puppy pad outside but tears up any in his pen. I am considering buying a big squirt but so expensive. Good luck with yours. Just kelp trying, she will get it. |
I have no advice but I am wanting to try the opposite with my dogs. They are trained to go outside, but I need them to use a potty pad. I am anxious to read the advice you get. Hopefully it will work for training to go from outside to a potty pad also. |
When I get my little guy trained on the potty pad I will try to give you some advice. But, since it is getting very cold here in MI, I'm training on the pee pads till spring. |
Gina is doing great going outside, but I would like for her to also use a pad, for when my wife and I start to travel in our Airstream. So any advise would be nice there. As for getting your puppy to go outside, I started taking Gina outside every time she woke up, or got done playing, or about every 45 mins to an hour. I just started a routine with her, and she is doing great. Good luck. Cheers Quad:aimeeyork |
My Oscar was litterbox trained up till age 1 1/2 years.. I then decided I wanted him Outside trained only so I started from scratch.. Took up the Litterbox completely and started taking him outside first thing in the morning, every 30 minutes , after meals , after naps .. Outside I just told him go potty , when he did I made a big deal of it , gave him his treat.. He did fantastic , Within a matter of days he was 100% outside potty trained... |
