Pearl The Fabulous Rescue Poodle I just wanted to update you all on my former rescue foster Pearl. As some of you may know Pearl was adopted to her forever home in June of this year. When her family goes out of town I am lucky enough to be the official babysitter (which THRILLS me). Pearl has been making great strides to get over her former life as a BYB money maker (Mom), when she first came to my house she was afraid of everything and I had to work very hard with her on leash walking, hand shyness and most of her social skills (including potty training). One of the things Pearl would never do is get on furniture or try to get in bed with us, she had a nice little pillow bed and she slept on that . Pearl is with us again this week, leaving for home on Sunday morning. We have been having a huge problem with her and Sophie Kate raising heck during the night, running around the house sounding like a herd of buffalo. So last night at around 8:00 pm I took both dogs on a 45 minute walk to our local park, they loved it and were good and tired. This morning I woke up to find a fuzzy white Pearl dog sleeping IN THE BED with us. I am not sure but I think we may have hit another milestone last night. I am happy for Pearl, she looked so content sleeping on our bed. For everyone who adopts a rescue, I know it is discouraging but I know you can relate to how happy it made me to see Pearl in our bed just relaxing and looking happy. |
Very sweet. |
That's great news about Pearl, it's fantastic that she's becoming more confident as time goes by. Yay Pearl!:cheer: |
wonderful! thanks for sharing. |
What a proud moment when you saw her there. |
I can only imagine the huge smile you must have been wearing. You should be so proud |
Aww I bet that was special. I guess you did a great job!! |
Thats really sweet! I'm so glad Pearl is coming along so nicely! Its amazing to have such an ability to love unconditionally that after years of neglect & abuse, they are able to open again and be happy and love! :) |
Her story puts a smile on my face for sure!!!! Way to go!!! |
Cheryl you must feel so good! I know I'm "busting my buttons" because my fearful Stanley is making huge breakthroughs! It sure is a great feeling isn't it? |
Awww that is wonderful xoxo, I can totally relate as the one thing I'm still trying to get Gizmo over is the hand shyness. If you go to pet him e with your hand above his head instead of below, he cowers down. It makes me so sad. He was only 9 weeks when I rescued him, and it's hard to imagine that either he was just not used to people at all, or he had been hit with a hand. It's the only reasons I can think of that he would react this way. He has grown leaps and bounds though and will lick your face off lol, but he still cowers when petted from the top of his head, although it is getting better, and he shows love for us very freely. He also still sometimes does this little really loud yelp if you pet a certain area near the rear of him, so again it leads me to believe he has been hit. When he does this yelp, I will pick him up and run my hand over every inch of his body really gently, and he does not react at all to that. The other thing is, he only does the yelp when playing with my husband, but never with me, although I'm always sitting right there. I play with him the exact same way, and he never reacts that way yo me, which leads me to believe that something has made him afraid of men. Thankfully he hasn't done it in a week or so, so I think he's adjusting and opening up. I am so happy for you having that break through :-) its truly amazing when you see them opening up and losing thar fear (((HUGS))) |
That is so very great :) |
What a wonderful milestone for Pearl! |
