Need a little help here My dogs would like to know where they are supposed to pee pee if the backyard is a shallow swimming pool? Can you retrain dogs to pads? We've gotta do something because I know they won't pee while swimming! Rain Rain GO AWAY!! |
You could probably retrain them to pee pads if they used them before. I'm in the same boat. It's pouring outside and my dogs won't go out. Not a problem with Brandy because she will use the pee pad if she gets desperate enough but my other dog Dallas (50 lb mixed breed) hates rain and absolutely won't go outside and has never used a pee pad in her life so she is sitting here staring out the window with her legs crossed waiting for a lull in the rain  |
The pads I use contain a special chemical that encourages dogs to urinate on them. I put them by the back door at night and it's stopped my baby waking me up. Have a look for "Simple Solution training pads" :) |
I'm in California too. Where are you? We are in a rural area outisde of Sac and the the ditches are flooded and the water is very quickly reaching our door. I hope it stops soon! Neither has ever used a pad. I'm putting a diaper on Tinkerbell she will probably go in it if the wait is too long, but my poor maltese Chloe will not go in the house, she too is crossing those legs!! I feel bad for her. |
My parents live in Orangevale. Where are you? I know there is flooding in areas up there. It's raining here in San Diego too and has been all day!! Yuck! I have a port-a-potty on the covered deck and they use pee pads inside too so it's not too bad. |
We are in a rural area south of Sac, Elk Grove. We just came home from my in-laws and had to drive through very high water to get to our house. I was so worried the water was in our house and my poor babies. They are fine though. |
I am so sorry you guys are getting too much rain!! I know our girls do not like to go outside in the rain....but this year it has been so terribly dry here in Texas that we rarely have to worry about it. I hope things get better for you guys and that you do not end up with any water in the house!! |
Bouncer won't go out in hard rain, but since we trained him on pee pads as a puppy he will still use them most of the time. Then again, sometimes he decides our recycling bucket looks like an oversized blue bush...and he pees on that. lol Such a little stinker! |
I live in Central Cal too and it's been raining for 2 days and more to come. Plus I live in the country, all dirt, now turned into mud, puddles, ponds, and swampy messes. But I put raincoats on my girls and take them out. They have been doing that for years. They are 7 now. They don't mind it because their backs and heads stay dry. Do it as early as you can and they will get used to it. Good luck to us all. I hope and pray this rain stops soon, even tho we do need it. |
Litter boxes are great!! Hello, I am very new to this site and this the first time to post on anything! I use litter boxes filled with feline pine pellets, I was having a hard time just training in general even in good weather!! And the breeders I got my babies from didn't use pee pads so they thought they were just great toys to rip up and run around with they couldn't believe I actually wanted them to use them for a potty!! So I read about litter training dogs and thought it couldn't be any harder than what I was going through!! They also have dog litter - but it is way more expensive and doesn't work any better than the feline pine in fact I think the feline pine works better. I got an ex pen and put a litter box in it and as soon as I sat it down they sniffed, jumped in and peed!!! I was soooo happy, now that intial great moment doesn't mean we have never had an accident but it only took a week or so and they were 1000% better than they had been. The only thing is they are a little funny about it being dirty if you don't get the poop out regularly they might poop beside it. And yes they will still go outside as well. Well I know that there is not any one way that will work for everyone but I think that Yorkie's know what they like and if you are having problems esp. with potty training if one way is not working it might be worth it to try something different you just may not have found the way they prefer. I know I was knocking my head against a wall I tried everything I could think of until I found this. ;) :wavey: My babies are Max, Piper and Emma |
