My 8 lb yorkie thinks shes 3 lbs How many of you have yorkies that refuse to do things they should be capable of, My 8 lb jewels wont jump on the bed you have to pick her up, she wont jump on chairs, she wont go potty outside in the weather, she wont walk long then you have to pick her up, I met this lady with this tiny yorkie that i was certain he wouldnt be able to do alot of things but come to find out he could do more than jewels . Shes either uncapable or a complete brat. I loxe her to pieces though |
Lol well be lucky its not the other way around. Rosie is under 3 lbs and tries to jump off furniture, her bark is louder and deeper than Luma's, she jumps fearlessly into water after toys, and if I let her, she'd eat her and her sister's food portion in an instant. I'll take a prissy bigger yorkie any day over a napoleon-complex smaller yorkie. |
Ha ha, consider yourself lucky, while smaller dogs might be able to do those things, they also are really bad for the joints and at least you don't have to worry about her jumping off the bed and injuring her knees! I think the single hair keeps Yorkies from enjoying the rain like other dogs, that fur really does help insulate them and keep them from getting as wet. Remember, Divas come in all different sizes! |

Cali is 4 pounds going on 15! She has no fear of anything and it scares me to death. Scarlett is the outside diva dog. She looks at you like you are a complete barbarian for asking her to pee on the grass. If it's raining, good luck even getting her halfway through the garage. |
Mine are both smaller and lively. Kyra though is not allowed to jump off things although she would if given a chance. She loves rolling in the dirt and chasing any cat that comes across her path lol. |

My neighbor has a tiny Yorkie who is like a little rubber ball bouncing off of everything, no matter the height. I can't watch. Too scary. |

Caleb is pretty much the same as Jewels. He does go up and down the stairs, but doesn't jump up with out help. Which is just as well,'cause when he gets excited he can fall over his own feet. As others have said, we might be lucky, those tiny dogs who jump on the furniture and leap about would scare the heck out of me. I'm scared enough with Caleb and he's nearly 6lbs and still gaining. Jewels knows how special she is, and is obviously a 'lady'. :) |
Lola is 4.5lbs going on 50. She's not afraid of any dog or obsticle. At least she's good about using her steps. My cousins dogs are around 35lbs and Lola isn't intimidated by them, she'll play submissive, but it's totally an act. One of her dogs had a bone and Lola kept trying to steal it, he was growling at her and I ended up having to pick her up because she wouldn't stop. In one of the doorways I have a tote on it's side and a fabric hamper to block Lola, she got her foot into the hampers handle and pulled herself over the tote. She was at least a pound lighter when that happened. |
Count your blessings!! Lexie is the same way, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I NEVER have to worry about her jumping up onto or down off anything. She broke her leg jumping when she was young & I think she definitely learned because she is scared to now. Fine with me! |

She's not spoiled brat.....she's just an excellent trainer. Do you at least get a treat? Seriously though, I think it's good that she doesn't jump of the bed. I got Brandi steps because even though she was capable of jumping on and off the bed she would insist that I pick her up (at 2 in the morning......this wasn't very cute) so I got her some steps that she uses at least 90% of the time now. And like everyone said, it is so much better for their little joints. I no longer have to worry to much about her hurting herself jumping off the couch or bed especially when I'm not home. Beyond the jumping I would say she has you thoroughly trained. Don't feel bad, all my little one has to do is look at me and I become her slave.,:p |
Sophie Kate has no clue how small she is. Last week she was walking o. The couch and got to close to the edge and fell on her back on to he hardwood floor. I freaked out, I am still haunted by the look of fear as she landed on the floor ( she is fine) |
Oh boy, both my boys have moments, or situations where they won't do things.... but when it's something they want to get to, they somehow manage! LOL Dex won't jump on the bed at camp. He can do it if I'm up there with a treat... but at night he won't do it. Oh sometimes Dex acts like he can't chew something, like a baby carrot or a milk bone and we have to break it in 1/2 for him to eat it. DH will do that, but I just leave it until he gives up and bites it himself. He had a dental 1.5 years ago and the vet said his teeth were great, so I know it's not his teeth. LOL Dex is small though. He's not a tiny, he's between 6.5 - 7lbs. Hes just small though, bird bones, so fragile. Fletch used to be a bit bigger than that at 8.5lbs but he was always SOLID and sturdy, not like Dex. |
Huey scares me to death with the jumping from heights! He uses his stairs to get on the bed, but rarely to get off. He has jumped from the top of the recliner to the hardwood :eek: and gets in a hurry going down the stairs and will leap over the last 2 or 3. I try to slow him and reduce his excitement, but this is impossible when he sees something outside to bark at. I am thankful that he has little stumpy legs instead of supermodel long legs as I think stumpy may be a bit sturdier, but I am still distressed every time I read a post about a broken leg. :( |
