Boots or not to boot? Since this will be Galen's first winter I want to be prepared. I was wondering about boots. . . . Hey a few years ago we had snow on Halloween. . . . Since we are in NY we get snow and ice. I wanted to know about good easy boots that he is not going to freak out with lol his paws are so little I just do not want them to freeze. Do you use boots? If you do which do you use? If you do not. What do you do for their feet? |
I don't use them but have thought about them myself. My girls freak when it snows! |
Both M/Z absolutely hates boots. The snow doesn't bother them too much but I'm more concerned about the salt on the sidewalks since I heard they're not good for the pads. I use a product called Musher's Secret. It's basically a wax you rub onto their pads. |
I had a miniature poodle. Never had a guy that had such little paws. Do you let the hair between his pads get a little longer? |
Bella has a pair, they protect the feet from the snow and ice. I now have to get Jackson a pair. That should be fun. |
I have a pair for Molly but she absoultely hates them and runs like a crazy dog trying to get them off. Not sure that I will use them on her but I will try on Maggie. Maybe I'll have better luck with her :D I got mine from Petsmart at the end of last winter for $3 for a $30 pair. |
If your pup hasn't worn any kind of shoes, I would suggest going to some place like Petco and trying them on First. I bought these adorable little shoes for Princeton a few years ago because he hates rain and snow...so naturally, I thought he'd appreciate shoes...ummm, nope!! He HATED them...but it sure was funny watching him walk. He literally marched around in them. It was like he had lead weights on his feet and he hated trying to walk. I am going to try and find the picture of him standing in his shoes...you can almost see the discomfort in his stance.... |
I'm in Minnesota, so I hear you on the weather front! I don't use boots for my dogs and their feet are always fine. They love playing in the snow and when we come in I make sure to wipe off their feet really well. |
I have muttluks for the boys they don't last long in the snow when it's minus 30 out and prefer to have something on their tootsies |
One great way to get them to stand perfectly still...put on shoes...at least at my house. Teri...I have a set. These are literally brand new. No one has worn them. If you want them...send me a pm and I'll send them to you. They are a name brand of dog bootie, but the name escapes me now. |

Peek a Boo did the funny walk at first, but when he realized his feet weren't freezing, he took off around the yard and was happy to be able to stay outside longer. As soon as he got distracted from trying to navigate with the boots on, he walked normally. Also, AlaskaYorkie (Mike) uses just a simple fleece bootie. Theory is they keep the balls of snow from accumulating between the pads and toes, which is the main problem. The fleece will get wet, but the dogs can deal with that. |
