Crazy Yorkie Hello everyone. I am a first time yorkie mommy and my 4 month old little boy is driving me crazy! He has all but two of his teeth and he chews and bites everything. When you tell him no he gets furious. He loves to chew on my fingers but it hurts so I don't let him. He gets really mad when I don't let him. Is this normal for a yorkie? He chews rocks and everything. I've been working with him.but he could really Care less what I have to say. I'm going nuts. Help! He growls and nips when he doesn't get his way. |
Welcome, I think that's normal. Make sure he has plenty of chew toys and substitute one when he is chewing something inappropriate. Yelp and turn your back on him when he nips you or bites your fingers. I'm sure more experienced people will have some great advice for you. Would love to see some pics. |
I thought my little one was the only one that talks back when I tell her no .. her nick name is Sassafrass as she sass's us so much when she gets told no .... we found Holly chewing a rock the other day too .... I equate this stage like the terrible 2's of a child and all of us parents remember those time :-) Definitely plenty of chew toys ... spend lots of time playing as this distracts the chewing of your fingers and hands ... I've found that playing fetch with a stuffed toy or even a rope toy gets the energy out of her as well Good luck its all going to be ok :-) |
dog Yorkies can drive is crazy with all their little bad habits. My JoJo chews so I have toys all over the house for him. He chews toys that are not really tough. I make sure the yard is safe because these dogs are smart and they will find stuff to chew. Once in awhile I give him a CET chew from the vet but I watch very carefully so he doesn't bite off a piece and choke. Happy days with your Yorkie. They are little love dogs! That is why God made em cute, so we would overlook the problems. |
Gina tries to chew on just about anything she can, she is 4 1/2 months old now. She has plenty of toys, and rawhide chewies, that I give her anytime she tries to eat my fingers. For the snapping and growling, I would recommend a training class for you both. I don't know how you feel about PetSmart, but they have a great puppy class, that Gina has gone through, it was well worth the time and cost of the class. Hope everything turns out alright for you. Cheers Quad:aimeeyork |
Thanks for the reassurance guys! Really needed it :-) |
