Help with sling pouch. 2 Attachment(s) I'm trying to decide which one for my baby. There will be times in the beginning that I want to bring him with me but don't want him walking around on the floor, but I cannot decide which one. So... please chime in and say which one you would like. Both have very good ratings. I don't know much on how a sling works, not sure how Boomer will like it, but I thought I would try one. Oh, and he gets to come home on the 22nd, I can't wait. He would have been able to come home this Sunday but we are busy with taking our TT in for warranty work. I didn't want to have a puppy sitter so soon and stress him out. Next spring he will start camping with us, he will love it! |
This is the one that I think I'm going to get. I've heard really good things about it and the sale helps the rescue. I'm all about that!!! Cuddle Up Black with Pink Dots Dog Sling/Carrier *Free Shipping**::*Dog Slings/Carriers*::*Yorkie Haven Rescue Boutique |

I'm actually looking at youtube videos on how to make a baby and puppy sling, I may try to combine the two directions and make my own. |
1 Attachment(s) I have one similar to the one on the right in denim & love it because it is shallower and more open. They can position themselves differently, whereas with the first one, there is only one way to sit in it really. Here's DH with Lexie, who is 5 lbs. I wear the strap cross-body of course. |
I'm not big on slings but of the two you have, I'll vote for the blue one. I used a sling like the brown one but stopped after few months. The reason was b/c the shoulder the sling was on starting hurting. I don't know how often you'd be using the bag but if it's like me, I'd like to recommend you get a backpack type that supports both shoulders. I know these little guys won't weigh much but for me to add extra 5-6 lbs on just one shoulder for 40-50 min every day, the stress of the weight was piling up. It also puts stress on your back as well. So if you're planning on using it regularly like I did, I'd really like to suggest you get the backpack type. If not, I still vote for the 2nd one b/c it just seems more comfy for the pup. :D |
Any ideas on the totes that the puppy can look out of that looks like a shoulder bag? I didn't know which one to get. |
Slings can get hot, take care that your baby doesnt overheat. Yorkie Haven Rescue sells slings that are light weight. AND you get to help the pups that are fostered. |
Any carrier can get hot. i use a cool pack in the bottom of any carrier I use. |

Just remember with a sling many of them have an open top. You always have to be mindful when you lean forward that you risk the possibility of dumping out your pet. Even with them attached to the chain you have a dangling pet. I learned that with Buster as I was doing things around the house and leaned over to pick something up and almost dumped him out, I now grab him when bending. I am researching slings as well but ones that the top can close up. Also in researching I have learned some do not have a flat sturdy bottom and people complained that if you set the sling down it can tip over. Check how deep they are does you dog like to lay down or sit and look out? Buster likes to look out some slings are too deep you might need a pillow or towel to boost them up, what will their chin rest on if they like to look out. Buster would rest his neck on the sling edge but every time I walked it would bump his neck and I was afraid of injuring his trachea. I agree with lap princess you have to be careful that they don't get overheated. I really like the design of the YHR sling and don't mind the price because the money is going to help rescue pups and not just the store. I learned it is better to wait and get the right item even if it is a little more money as I have lots of cheaper items that did not work out. Best of luck with finding the right sling. |
One of the reviews on the blue one. It completely contains puppy, with a clip on the inside. Has a padded bottom too. Got the large for our Jack Russell/Chi mix -8 pounds so that we would have room to spare, and we do. At five months, she's all legs and folds up nicely while staying secure at my side. This allows her to go many places on our vacation that she might not otherwise. There is a bright green lycra type upper and a well padded vinyl bottom. There is a seam that runs the length of the bag, but it's not bothersome. There is also a clip for keys inside. I can see someone placing a soft towel in the bottom or a pillow... but it's not necessary. I like how easy this is to clean, think it's well made and the zipper seems secure. There is the strange drawstring placement, but that's not something I would use with a puppy. Overall I'm happy with this purchase, and think it's a great alternative to most pet carriers. Will add a photo. |
1 Attachment(s) Okay, found one that goes over both shoulders, puppy is securely in front and has a hard bottom. Handmade and under $50 dollars! I really like this one, now I am going to look for reviews on it. |
Good luck with the research I look forward to reading about what you find as it will help me with my decision as well. |
