A change in sleeping arrangements
 

My wife's away for a few nights and Crystal has only slept with her, apart from regular afternoon zzzz's with Dad, since she arrived June the 18th!

So last night I wondered how she'd determine her newly circumstantial presentiment. Despite all doors being open, so both our rooms were accessible, she selected to not only sleep with me, but to get just as close as she possibly could all night, like a little hot water bottle!

I don't sleep well when Irina's away, so watched half an hour of TV around 5am! Consequently I slept through this morning. No problems for my little girl, who adjusted perfectly. Thank goodness though she eventually woke me - at the crack of noon - with lots of kisses accompanied with an appealing head to one side, one paw up, gaze of pure adoration.

Surprisingly, she's hardly been to mum's room / bed at all. Perhaps they realize the reality of separation better, when at least one of their 'human's' is about. That's why we would never leave her alone over a few hours (twice) and never overnight, as some of our neighbors seem inclined to do?

I spent 4 years alone, after my late wife died and now in contrast would have found her company priceless at many times, I'm sure. I can see now, how they make such wonderful companions for singles - as long as you stay with them?

I work nights and my husband works days so Huey sleeps pretty much all day and all night because he sleeps with whoever is home. If I am home from work and my husband is asleep,*Huey*will stick next to me no matter where I am until I am ready to go to bed or if I stay up all night he will stay next to me on the sofa all night as I watch TV. He will sometimes get up and go check on his daddy but he sticks next to me. If I am NOT home he is all over his daddy. It's funny; they stay next to whoever is there but I still think they have their favorite. I know being left alone is very low on his list of preferences. He really, really likes having his humans present.

My wife is convinced I'm the favourite, I'm not so sure? We both love playing with her, and engage this joint activity a lot as we are both retired and have the time to spoil her. She gets very excited about these family romps (as we do). I honestly believe she loves both her humans equally, perhaps I'm seen as the leader? She will get highly excited, when mum's back tomorrow, as she really doesn't like the family unit to be depleted at all. Also the spasmodic check on the other 'humans' presence when out of site is so typical of Crystal. I suppose tracing back their backround as vermin controllers travelling fom place to place with their owners, perhaps explains the particular close affinity they possess for us and the other way round too?

I call it 'Any port in a storm' syndrome! Thats my Dex. He prefers his mommy at all times, but if I am unavailable he picks the next best thing, he's such a lapdog. He'd sleep round the clock if I was sick and sleeping all day & night, he would too.
One time I had the norovirus and when I came home I was so sore and tired and cold, I went straight to bed with like 4 blankets. I slept for at least 24 hours straight. DH said he had to come in and pick Dex up to take him outside a few times at least. But he didn't eat, didn't play, didn't do anything but sleep up close to me the whole time. Fletch did his own thing and hung with the living! LOL
