Teething and ears :) My sweet little pups ears were always upright, but once he began teething, his left ear droops. He's our baby and it really doesn't matter, but I was wondering if it was a concern with his health, etc. He is just over 4 months old. :aimeeyork He just got his first groom and the ears are trimmed, so I'm thinking it has to do with teething. I, of course, Googled it to see what could be the cause. I just thought it was strange that it had to do with teething. Any input and/or thoughts are welcome!! Thanks!!!:animal-pa |
1 Attachment(s) My babies ears have never stood fully up as the breeder had her el natural (maybe she was a hippy :-P ) .. then one of her ear totally flopped over almost like a Labradors ear flops all the way over ... she is 3 and a half months old and I asked on here and got many replies that there ears tend to flop around teething stage and more often than not they pop back up again ... I was also advised to get a little more calcium into there diet with plain non fat yogurt or cottage cheese (not a lot obviously) ... I'm in love with the pointy nose and stand up ears of a yorkie so hope my pumpins' ears pop up ... but she's a darn cutie either way ... she's due for her last shots soon so can take her to get groomed to get rid of the hair on her ears (I've been to chicken to do it) :-) Here's a picture of her yesterday ... she's a hot mess :-) Edit -- forgot to Mention she's a Biewer Yorkie (or Biewer Terrier) |
I think someone told me that during teething, all the calcium goes to the teeth so the ear might not be getting as much... something like that. It's nothing that would harm your furbie so no worries. I think it'll eventually go back up. Personally, I think it'll be cute with half down. More character! :) |
Thank you! I read somewhere last night that the calcium does go to their teeth and growing bodies during this time! Makes sense. I just wanted to be sure it wasn't something else. I'm also going to trim up the fur on the tips. I haven't been great about keeping up with that :). My last yorkie had super floppy ears and grew to be 12 pounds! But I wouldn't have traded him for anything else in the world! I agree that it gives him more character also! Holly wood...love your puppy? How old is she? |

Aww! Thanks jeane! I think it's cute too. I just didn't want to be a neglectful mama! That's why I love this forum...we all as Yorkie parents are so supportive and have good advice! :). :aimeeyork |

Just enjoy your puppy. She is going to change every month. Be patient. I love puppies. They each are so unique. |
