Hello I am new to this community, so I am just saying hello. I am picking up my new Yorkie Monday morning and I am super excited about this. Her name is Jazzy and she is soo adorable. She is 8 months old and I am buying her from a battle buddy of mine who is about to deploy and can no longer care for her. I am medically retiring from the military, so I have nothing but time on my hands to spoil her. Can any one give me any pointers on some things about Yorkies, like the type of food that they eat, what will I have to get use to; anything is helpful at this point.. TIA:) |
Welcome! And first, thank you for your service to the country. :) I'm sure you'll find any/all info you'll need here. If not, someone will probably point you to where you need to go. Regarding your question about food, you should feed her what she's been eating unless you feel the quality isn't good and want something better. If you go to the "Yorkie Health & Diet", you'll find a lot of helpful info. If you do decide to change food, please remember to do it gradually. Yorkies tend to have a sensitive tummy. Not sure if she's potty trained yet but that could be one of the more difficult things. Good socialization is important as well as training her the basics like sit, stay, leave it, etc.. You can look up youtube on these type of training. You'll have so much fun with her! |
Welcome to YT :) if she is on a good food no need in changing it, if not introduce new food slowly along with the present...we love pictures of babies here ;) |
Welcome! Thank you for your service. |

Welcome to Yorkie Talk and congratulations on the new addition to your life! Thank you for your service. Looking forward to seeing pictures of Jazzy. :) |
Welcome to YT from a fellow disabled Veteran. Congratulations on getting your furbaby. This is a great site for information, on care and training, and just general questions. If you have any questions on VA related information send me a pm, I've been dealing with them since 1996. Cheers Quad:aimeeyork |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Thank you for your service, and I wish you all the best in your retirement status. Congratulations on your new girl Jazzy. I love that name. Can't wait to hear all about her and hope you'll post pictures. Yorkie Talk is so full of information, it will take a while to navigate around and absorb some of it. So relax, read, and post any questions you have, and most of all just enjoy your new girl. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk and thank you for your service!:) Also, congrats on your new furbaby! Here is a list of book on Yorkshire Terriers on Amazon.com: Amazon.com: yorkshire terrier: Books I'm sure they are all excellent books, but I personally like the "For Dummies" books. A good training book or two will come in handy ;) Good luck and be sure to post pictures of Jazzy! |
I feel so welcomed First and foremost, I would just like to say thanks for welcoming me and my soon to be Jazzy in. I only have one picture so far and I'm trying to figure out how to post it. I'm a little behind the power ball when it comes to new sites, but as soon as I can see where I can upload her picture I will most definitely do it. Thanks again for all of your feedbacks, the insight and the best welcome that I have ever received, well besides when I swore in to join the Army. Lol. |
Welcome and thank you for your service! |
Oh my gosh, I just saw Jazzy's picture... what a cutie. She looks a lot like my Tiki when her ears were up (they are mostly down now). Same color and same sweet look. You picked a good one there, and I wish you much luck and happiness with her. |
Welcome to YT, and congrats on your new little fur baby xoxo. My nephew is also in the Army as a Sargent :-) he just got back from Afghanistan , and before that served 2 deployments in Iraq. Thank you so much for your service to our country, keeping us safe xoxo. |
