My Yorkie is afraid of small dogs. Do you have any suggestions. She is seven months old. She plays with my 20 pound cat but is shy with dogs. |

Maybe a puppy class for socialization.. If you have a Petco or Petsmart in your area they have classes for this purpose.. |
I totally agree with Wanda. We had a Chow that we took to a puppy class and it was fantastic!! She was probably the best dog we ever had. In fact, when we got our Yorkie, Angel, she totally dominated Mei Li! One of the things we were told to do, was to take Mei Li to a shopping center and walk her. There she could get used to all different noises, people, and there was a small animal shelter/store where you could take pets. It was just wonderful and she became such a well adjusted dog. Good luck! Katheleen |
Thank you. I just. Enrolled her in a small dog "manners" class at our humane society. I will try our two pet stores. Thanks. I will post how she does |
Joel is scared of small dogs too, he got a little better after going to the dog park |
Gina was so intimated on the 1st day of puppy class, she was only 10 weeks old and the smallest and youngest pup there, she just stayed in my arms most of the time. Now she is fearless with other dogs, size doesn't matter, she wants to meet them and play. The trainer said to take her with me everywhere I could, and make sure she stayed sitting or laying down when people went to pet her, no jumping, easier said then done with dogs, but people she sits for now. We never took our first yorkie, Charlie, around other dogs and it was a huge mistake. He was so scared of other dogs that he would having a barking, crazy fit every time he saw one. When we would run at our local park, my husband would have to pick him up and hide his eyes. This was not so easy as he weighed 15 pounds. As soon as Barney was old enough and had all of his vaccinations, I took him to visit friends with dogs. It made a huge difference. Taking yours to a puppy class is a great idea. |
THanks I try to take her with me most places except that my office is rather difficult about the importance of having Yorkies in the workplace. I love the idea of making her lay down when she meets new people. She LOVES people.:aimeeyork:) I have taken her 4 times to the pet store and am just working on having her ignore rather than cower at the dogs that are also there. When visiting a friend, after an hour she would let the mini s**tzu stand next to her. |
