Never thought I'd complain but... Our yorkie pup is 18 wks and have had her 8 weeks and have yet to hear her bark!! What's up with that - anyone know? She's normal in all other respects and is VERY healthy, happy, etc. Not that I'm complaining mind you - I'm just kind of surprised. |
Max was silent his first 6 months. Now he has a big voice and he is in love with his power. :D You may get lucky and have a quieter Yorkie. If not, enjoy it while it lasts. |
Haha, Trade ya!! My boy barks constantly! Starts at 5:30 am, with him barking "wake up mom it's a brand new day!!" He keeps it up till I get the door open! :lovewings |

I had to teach my 1st Yorkie, Megan how to bark, then I wish I hadn't. It's like waiting several months for your kid to say his 1st word, then wanting him to shut up for the next 18 years. Just kidding about the last, Gina was barking at about 6 wees old, not often, and she still doesn't, only when she really wants our attention. Just be patient, it will happen some time. Welcome to Yorkie Talk. It takes a few weeks but it won't be long and the barking may start. Marcie can be a non stop barker. |

Lola started barking a few weeks after I got her while she was playing. She's 6 months now and she still only barks when she's playing or when she wants something. The breeder I got her from said she used to bark in the middle of the night, but we think it must have been her sister. Even when my cousins dogs start barking or dogs at the pet store bark she doesn't bark. I've considered trying to get her to bark when people are at the door, but I'm afraid of creating a monster. |

Barking Everyone here is so friendly - I love it! And thank you for the comments. One of my daughters has 2 yorkies and she says one barks and one doesn't. |
Kyra was 6 months old before we heard her bark. She still has a very quiet bark but can be vocal when she wants to be lol. |

Welcome to YorkieTalk! Some Yorkies are just quieter than others. Henri is a little over 2 years old and is pretty quiet, he rarely barks. My Grandma came for a visit and kept commenting on how quiet he is, she kept saying to Henri how he is such a good boy for being quiet :D He really only barks or growls when he is "protecting" the house or me. If your baby is one of the quiet ones then count yourself lucky, there are other dogs in my family that are the complete opposite :rolleyes: |

My Gizmo only barks or whines when he sees 2 of my 3 cats lol. He's super quiet and never complains. He's besties with my kitty Lucy, so he does not bark at her but if Sadie or Bruiser, come near where he can see him he barks like he thinks he's the biggest pup in the world haha :-) |
Hopefully your little girl won't be a big barker:) Joel is mostly really quite, I've had a few people ask if he's de-barked. As he get's older he finds new things to bark for but not in a crazy way:p |

I think how much they bark can depend a lot on their personalities and what they have been exposed to. If they hear other dogs bark they tend to pick up the behavior pretty quickly. Gracie barked when she was about 4 or 5 months old. She had a litter of kittens that she used to herd around when she was a puppy. She would get all excited about playing with them and would bark at them now and then. She still does on occasion. If one of the cats gets near one of her favorite toys they will hear about it!:rolleyes: |
