X Ray of Day 45 Pregnancy 2 Attachment(s) We have a Yorkie that is 45 days pregnant (she tied twice--44/46 days ago). Today I had X rays made and the Vet told me she did not see any fetus'. She did say that the sperm could live for 10 days, which may throw off the number of days to 35... Is there anyone who could give me a 2nd opinion on these x rays? Thanks in advance. |
Xrays should not be done b4 the 45th day of pregnancy bc the radiation can be harmful to the puppies. Xrays should be done after 46-47 days bc the bones of the puppies will be calcified & you can see them (head shape & spine) on xray. Xrays 3-4 days b4 birth is best, the vet can determine if the momma can pass the puppies on her own or if a c-section needs to be set up. |
I highly recommend you read over this very helpful subject in the YT Library: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...-answered.html I'm not sure if your vet is experienced w/small breeds but you should've waited a little longer to have the xrays taken. @ this stage, an experienced vet can palpate her abdomen & they can tell if the dog is pregnant or not. Please do your research, your pup is now pregnant (maybe?) & needs you more than ever, her life is literally in your hands...along w/her pups. Best of luck w/whelping! |
Xrays should be done day 56-58, and a knowledgable vet can palpate any "puppy nodules" between 30 days and when you do your xrays. An US can pick up puppies as early as 3 weeks, but your vet has to be experienced and know what they are looking at or you are wasting money. Re-ray on day 58 to verify if there are babies present. |
