Do yorkie pups grow out of eating poop? My 5 month old girl Cookie apparently considers her poop a real delicacy. I don't think she's running short on nutrition because she eats pretty well: roughly 1/2 cup a day of Royal Canin 29 yorkie puppy, along with a couple of snacks (mini bacon chews and Iams puppy biscuits). But wow does she love to go after her poop. Is this a puppy thing or this something I am going to have to actively train her not to do? Sorry if this question has been asked a million times before, but the search function isn't working. |
Billi is 6 months and still goes after poop, hers or my grand-doggers... since they both live here, I give them pineapple slices (canned) each day & sprinkle meat tenderizer on Billi's food. Something about that makes her leave her poop alone. I do still have to watch her if someone else's dog poops in our yard, but thankfully other YT'ers have said they can grow out of it. I can't wait for that day cuz EW! D: |
For mine it was a puppy thing but they would still go after the cat poop so I have to keep the cat box so they cant get in it |
Our puppy is 3 and half months old and has the same habit ... we've been as diligent as possible to try and catch her before she eats it but not always successful.... if she poops on the pad AND doesn't try and take a bite out of it she gets a treat .. otherwise she can stare at the treat bag all day :-) I'm hoping its something she'll grow out of too ... such a gross habit for such a cute breed of dog ... even my pug would not eat his own poop .... others poop yes... but he at least had the decency not to eat his own :-P :-) and pug are the grossest of all breeds :-) |
Milo used to do that as a puppy too.He would literally pull it out of his own butt if we let him and heŽd go after Bellas before it hit the floor too! We were SO so disgusted by it because Milo is a kisser lol.We tried EVERYTHING from putting pineapple in his food to asking friends in England to send us Solid Gold S.E.P (Stope eating poop) etc etc..nothing worked. He was so desperate to get at his poop (and at Bellas) that he would wine and yap as we picked it up because it meant he couldent eat it. Then suddenly, at the age of around 11 months old, out of the blue, he stopped doing it, and heŽs never done it again :) |
Someone on this site suggested giving 2 pieces of canned pineapple chunks a day and it works. I hope it works for you. |
Thankfully Lily never tried this but Taka on the other hand went after it every chance he got! When we got him at 4 months he would ALWAYS try to eat it up until 8 months...now at 11 months he doesnt eat poop anymore unless it is runny (diarrhea) EWWWWW!!! The only thing I did was tell him no in a stern voice when he tried to eat it....hopefully she just stops like Taka did! :D |
Zoey used to take a nibble at Magnus's poo but not her own. Thankfully, I think she grew out of that but now that Magnus poo outside most of the time, she doesn't get a chance. If for some reason I can't take them out, I usually keep a close eye on them just in case. |
Put some pineapple in her food. I have hear they won't eat their poo after they've eaten pineapple. |
My girl ate her poop for the first 6-8 months! Pineapple worked for me. Frozen dole pineapple chunks. Cut into fourths, two chunks a day! Good luck! |
