Omg, A Mountain Lion We live in a small rural town and several residents in our town and a few surrounding towns have reported seeing an appx 170 pound mountain lion , Yikes. How the heck do we protect ourselves from this.. I told my husband no more taking Angus for a walk , they would not stand a chance against a Mountain Lion.. This really scares me.. |
That sounds very scary. Be very careful! Isn't there something the authorities can do? Keep us updated on the situation. |

Oooh, not good. That can be dicey, even in broad daylight, but definitely don't go out around dawn & dusk, let alone after dark. We have them around here too. Quote:

They try to avoid humans...but still use caution! NEVER leave your dogs, cats & any other pets outside unsupervised if a Mt. Lion has been spotted in your area. There's a large Mt. Lion population here in CA, even in the crowded suburbs, see them on the news from time to time, sadly they are killed. How scary! There was one a couple towns over who was treed by a persons large dogs. They kept it in the tree until the forest service guys came and shot it :( |

Are you supposed to run, play dead or act bit, make a lot of noise or what if you encounter one of these guys? What do local authorities recommend you do? This sounds so scary - remember that old guy that was attacked so brutally when he was just walking or hiking with his wife and almost died when one of them attacked him? They didn't think he would live for a few days. I think if his wife hadn't fought it off eventually, he would have died for sure. So scary! Ya'll take some protection with you when outside and stay indoors when you can. |
I think I remember watching something on animal planet where a hiker or someone riding their bike on a trail got mauled by a mountain lion. I thought if you make loud noises or throw something at them and they go away? We have foxes and vultures around so Magnus/Zoey are NEVER unattended outside. |

My dad used to hunt mountain lions for bounty when I was growing up. They would be destroying livestock so the ranchers put a bounty on them. I honestly don't think they are afraid of anything. Maybe gunfire or something equally as loud but just screaming or throwing things at them I think would just entice them. |
