Best Food What kind of food do you feed your babies? Bailey is not as excited to eat anymore because I think she is bored with her food... I was looking to switch it up. Right now she eats Call of the Wild and she used to LOVE it. I don't like wet food because of the smell so dry food would be best. Any suggestions would be great that your dogs love! Thank you! :):animal36 |
I'm not sure why but this topic gets pretty passionately dicussed sometimes. You might try searching the forum for past threads. Bottom line, imo, is that there isn't one finite answer. I think whatever works for each pup is what's good for THAT pup :) Mandie has always done well on grain free so I keep her onBlue Buffalo. Just remember to gradually transition any food change to keep upset tummy at bay. You may just need to try various ones until you find what works. |
I recently switched Rasta from Royal Canin to Blue Buffalo's small breed puppy chicken and oatmeal because he didn't want to eat the RC . Luckily for me he loves BB and has been gaining weight on it not like with the RC have you tried putting a "topper" on the C.O.T.W? Everyone's opinion is going to be different, but another food I was looking into was Solid Gold. |
My dogs get bored with their food VERY quickly. Over time, I've learned their patterns & I know when to offer variety so they continue to eat. I feed them kibble in the morning & raw at night. I offer a different protein every 3 days & I add fresh food (like boiled diced chicken or peas) to their kibble sometimes. Some say that a rotation diet is good for pets. Others say that changing foods will make your pet more picky. Here's a link about rotation feeding: Rotation Feeding for Pets | petMD You have to use your best judgement because each dog is different. If dry food works best for you, maybe you can switch proteins and/or brands with each new bag. If she likes Taste of the Wild, maybe go from High Prairie to Southwest Canyon to Pacific Stream back to High Prairie, etc. If you do stick with one brand, you won't have to worry so much about digestive issues. I've found that a rotation diet really helps with keeping mine interested & consistent in mealtime. Good luck!! |

:) It's a tough question I've been dealing with the same problem. I started feeding my 3 dogs home coocked and I saw great benefits in it even though other people say its bad ice truly seen dogs live longer on a home coocked based meal diet. But if not possible you can also try Orijen. Orijen is said to be the best dry food out there and you can't get better than that. Although its hard to find and most of the time you have to order it online but its the best. I've gone to pet stores to shop for toys and clothing for my dogs and sometimes the food representatives that stand in the store asking what do you feed your dog and trying to promote their brand they will ask me what do I feed my dogs? And I tell them I feed then orijen and they say oh ok you got the best you can't get better than that. So I guess it's a really good brand the I ingredients are great. So maybe you can try that. Good luck and hope to hear how it goes ;) |
Bella loves Blue Buffalo |
As Gizmo is a young pup, I went with the vets recommendation, and put him on yorkie puppy 29. He eats eat very well, although I make small changes throughout the day with it. In the morning I mix a bit of yobaby vanilla yogurt with it, which he gobbles up, I do this to make his ears stronger so they will stand up, as it has 25% calcium. Then during the day I add hot water and mix, let it sit for about 5 minutes, so it's still nice and warm. I do the water/food mix for the rest of the day until bedtime. Then at bedtime I give him the dry kibble for over night. He eats all of it great, even though the kibble is always the same. For treats, they are all dehydrated meat mixes such as salmon, beef with brown rice and a few others. Those are just a few a day for when he's being super good and gets rewarded for his behavior. They are all little soft jerky type squares and I only tear off little pieces of the square. He has not had any digestive problems at all on this diet and his poops are nice and firm. I did learn he had an allergy to chicken when I tried the boiled chicken breast, it gave him the runs, so. Stopped it and they immediately went away, so I now make sure there is no chicken in anything I give him. |
Dooney is also a very picky eater, I went through a lot of kibble brands but he did not consistently eat any of them. I thought when I switched to premade raw that he would love it but I was wrong, he only ate premade raw for a couple of weeks. He always did well on Orijen six fish ( kibble ) but he didn't gobble it up like I wanted him to. I then tried freeze dried raw ( stella and chewy). He loves it, S&C is high in fat. I was not comfortable with giving him that exclusively, so I put it on the Orijen, and low and behold, he loves it. Finishes his meal within minutes, I started sprinkling some on premade raw also and he also loves it...So far he still enjoys the S&C, so I hope it stays that way. I also believe in the rotational diet. The Orijen is high in protein. So far my baby is thriving on the diet he's on. Small firm poops, great skin/ hair and no eyes boogers. Good luck with finding what your baby will eat. Sometimes it's a lot of trial and error. |

I have been told by a local Healthy Pets Store that he felt confident in recommending Fromm to me when I asked what he would feed a yorkie. They seem to have good reviews, So if that's something your interested in. I would look into it. Its a multi-protein diet so Its not just plain chicken or what not. It has several options in one feeding. Im going to give that a try. Hope you find what works best for you little one.! |
