Silly question.... I was just wondering if the Nylabone edibles will upset my little babies tummy? I gave her one Friday and one yesterday and when she went to the bathroom while I was gone today she pooped but it was different in color and texture. There was also a little something in the floor. I thought she had tinkled but I'm not convinced that's what it was. It was dried but it was kinda gel like if that makes since. There were also little droplets on the floor. That's why I was thinking it was tinkle. Any ideas? |

Not a silly question at all. Yes, they can mess up digestion...ESPECIALLY in these small, delicate breeds. I would also stay away from greenies and anything of that nature. Digestive issues and BLOCKAGES can and have happened with such items. Also, just in case you weren't aware, never give rawhide products either...even to big dogs. They really should not even be allowed to be sold. sigh |
Sounds like a mucous-y poop, which is an indicator of digestive upset. I would stop giving that product. |

I only got them in the first place because she was chewing so much on the non-edible Nylabone that she was taking chunks out of it. I threw that one away and got the others. A lot of people use Himalaya chews or Bully Sticks for big chewers. But I've found that they both cause digestive upsets on one of my dogs. |
bully sticks can be good, but as with all chews...supervise. Any chew can cause a choking hazard. Himalayans dont interest Mandie but many here use them. It's hard when you have an aggressive chewer. My big boy is one. I just give him femur bones...smoked. Antlers are another option, but again...I heavily recommend supervising chew sessions. Another idea is carrot sticks. Mandie LOVES them! |
How about homemade chews? I remember someone making sweet potato chews in their oven/dehydrator... |

I would definitely be careful what you give her, her having tummy issues with the Nyla bone would indicate to me she has a sensitive little tummy.. I know some has mentioned Bully Sticks, however the fur butts with the sensitive tummies usually can’t handle them. Peanut is one of those and he can’t eat Bully Sticks or Texas Toothpicks.. I tried to give him a Himalayan Chew and he carried it around, buried it and that was the last I saw it. I know Petsmart they have “teething toys” specially made for them, but if she can eat through a Kong, I’m sure she would be able to eat through one of those!! Like Terri has mentioned maybe you can try a carrot stick, you can even freeze it to make it harder for her- she might even like it more since it will be cold on her gums. |
I can't remember where I found this bit of info, but I soak clean wash clothes, make them super tightly twisted and freeze them. Gizmo loves chewing them, and it takes forever for them to get soft. Once they do I re twist them and re freeze them. They keep him quite busy because they take so long to thaw. Also I seen the natural antlers at home goods in their dog treat section, not sure if your near a home goods store, but they have way more options for chew toys than most pet stores do, at east here where I live they do. I thought bout getting the antlers for Gizmo, but was not sure about them at the time. Now I may pick up a couple and see how he does with them :-) |
Thanks for all the tips. I will try these for sure. I know would have imagined such a little girl could chew so hard. Lol. Those little teeth are sharp. :) I was told that her adult teeth wouldn't be as sharp. Any truth to that? Molly is my first baby and I am learning as I go. Everything is new to me. A friend of mine to me to stay off the Internet cause I was getting so confused at the beginning. But thankfully I found this forum. I picked up in some wonderful tips. Somedays I just go through page after page to see what's on here. It's been a big help and so have you guys. Thanks again so very much!!! |
